Ok I'm going pheasant hunting in north daota. Mostly dry and arrid. Lots of walking. Need lightweight durable clothing (inexpensive). What kind of material do you all recommend.
Standard upland pants or chaps. Good walking boots

cordura brush pants or chaps, and a good pair of waterproof walking boots. I have hunted pheasants out west in single degree temps, and didn't need that much on. Its amazing how warm you are while walking. Haven't heard the bird forcast for this year, but on good hatch years in the Dakotas, you usually don't have to walk too far to get your limit.

I'll be making my first ND trip to hunt pheasants in November. I've also been wondering about the climate that time of year. I'll probably just dress in layers that I can always take off once I get there. Like somebody else said, once you start walking, it won't take long before you get hot.
Good luck to you and save a few for me.

What I am hearing is the climate is dry very dry Im told it can be 60 or 20 in October.
Further they are saying that the it's not really rough stuff to walk through just more like grass not so much like thorns and stuff.

Pack for any possible conditions. One day could be close to 70 degrees and the next blizzard-like. I've hunted all the extremes when I've been there. Keep in mind it's always windy, too.
As for gear... comfortable boots, a GPS (the terrain looks all the same), forceps or tweezers (there are porcupines there) and lip balm. I wear Filson and that always took care of things apparel-wise.
Good luck. It's a great state and the hunting is fantastic. Try to hunt sharptails (and ducks) while there if you can. Might even get some Huns, too.

I've hunted a lot in ND, and as mentioned above, the weather can vary a lot. I always wear my hip boots when pheasant hunting the private farm fields (it's easy to get permission). As the farmers cut their crops, the birds generally will move into the cattail/swails in the middle of the cut fields. These areas are generally lower and will be anywhere from moist to standing water. And thats where I always find birds.
Good luck.

I tell you what I was there last year to wards the end October and it never did get warmer then 25dgs All the water frozen Stay two weeks left 2 November. The one thing you can count on is that it will get cold when thats up in the air. All the birds are south of fargo and bismark don't have much in the line for crops north of there mostly cattle.
