Must be one of those Smoky Mountain problem bear transplants I heard about =
Bear Alert Caution: A nuisance bear has been reported on Stearns Ranger District. If you see a bear acting aggressively or charging, call 1-800-25-ALERT.

what county is this bear suppose to be?

My guess is McCreary,but I couldn't find out for sure,just says Stearns Ranger District which covers a little bit of ground.

We were down there over 7/4. The Blue Heron Campground has one that is a frequent visitor, but I did not hear of it causing excessive trouble. We're going back down in the next month or so for some camping and hiking. Thanks for the warning.

Can't tell you why they list 1-800-25-ALERT except it's now a KDF&WR bear,the Tennessee F&W Dept used to move problem bears from the Smoky Mt National Park to the Big South Fork area,don't know if they still do.

we just returned from down there last night, spent most of friday around stearns then the rest of the time down in the TN part. went out just about every morning and evening and never saw a bear. kept hoping, and the kids kept looking, but to no avail. we did see more deer down there the last hour of daylight on sunday evening than we have ever seen, must have seen at least 50 right around the cabin...
