Just wondering if anyone here is scheduled for an outfitter somewhere this fall?

I will be with Bear Lake Wilderness Camp in Ontario in September for a big black bear. I am pumped about this trip!

Several guys from here are going on their annual snow goose hunt with me in Missouri.

It's surprising how many guys go to Canada to bear hunt. I have gotten 10 black bears in to mount (mostly rugs) since last September.

Whats the process in NH for moose? Are you doing a do it your self and if so, how is land access?

I've talked to a couple of guys that have been on moose hunts. They both said that it was a blast right up until the shot......

The draw procedures in NH are similar to the quota hunts here. Every year you are not drawn you get a preference point and for every preference point you get you name is entered into the drawing an additional time. I think the odds for non-residents are around 1 in 55. I was drawn the fourth year I put in. An out of state moose tag is $300 after you get drawn, it costs $10 per year to apply for the draw.

I am going with a guide, I had planned on doing it myself, but due to a lack of vacation this year I don't think I will be able to put in enough time to scout. The reason I started putting in for this hunt is because there is a large amount of public and paper company land available to hunt and I think a person could do the hunt by theirselves without too much trouble if they did a little homework. Most guides in the area also VERY resonably priced. The guide I booked charges $1300 for the season with lodging and meals included. The northern half of the state usually has around a 70% success rate going down as you move south.

you said his rates are $1300 for the season. How long is the season?

The season lasts nine days. I guess it would be comparable to where the elk hunt will be in a couple of years, they draw a total of 675 tags. The state is divided into zones with more tags allotted in zones with high moose populations.

Maine has a higher population and more tags, but I don't like the way their draw works where you can buy as many chances as you want. I think everyone should have an equal opportunity at drawing a tag.

What are your rates?

If I get one, i really want to get the full body mount.

Hope my wife likes it:D:eek:

Ditto that.Had two guys in bear camp with us that had booked a moose hunt togather. One got his right near the water. The other shot his and it went about a mile then crossed another lake before he was able to finish it.That makes for a long way to drag a ton of meat.Said if he ever went again it would be too soon.:D

You don't drag moose.....least not without a dozer. They get worked on where they fall, if you fall one int he water, then it might not be too fun, otherwise it's still fun, just a time to get to work.

Here's mine....can't wait to go back again for another one

Flew north out of Tok, Alaska with 40 Mile Air....non-guided drop camp deal. Killed the moose on the 3rd day of the 18 day drop. In Alaska, you have to get out all the meat before the horns, so we got it all back to camp in one day. Took 14 trips X 3 to do it. Each one was a blast, but the last one was the most fun of all.

I hunt antelope in Limon Colorado on Oct 6, which happens to be the bull elk opener in Ky. If I should get drawn for KY, I have a real logistical problem! But I'll make it work! LOL
I have hunted with the same outfitter for several years , and the drill is so routine now, that some years I don't even see him. He has the lease on a large ranch, and I am the only one hunting in a particular section(I have never seen another hunter). When I have already paid him the total, I just call him and let him know that I am there, and I hunt on my own, which I love. If I want to see him before I hunt, I make sure that I still owe him some when I arrive, so I guarantee that we will rendevouz before I hunt! LOL
