Where is grouseguy? Come out of there, it's about time to get those dogs warmed up. I've got a new place we need to try this year. If any of you find him please bring him home.

Hey, I'm right here Ronnie! I usually check in about every day, but I haven't posted much lately. I figure with my current extremely poor attitude towards the Dept, its best if I just lurk for awhile, or only post on non-controversial, non-Dept related topics. Wouldn't want to bruise any of that thin skin, you know!

As for hunting season and dogs, I've been working puppies every evening and trying to figure out which two will get a Northwoods ticket to go with the older dogs to Wisconsin the first two weeks in October. Have you ever seen a 15 week old english setter naturally honor with style a littermate on a sight-point on a butterfly? Very satisfying and comical all at the same time.

I've also been doing some scouting for new places to hunt this off season. Maybe we can hook up for a couple of cold adult recreational beverages and compare notes for the upcoming season. Is your new hunting place local or do we get to take a road trip?

He-l your attitude is what I like most about you, if someone can't take the truth then so be it.

This sounds like a proud daddy dog tail to me. As far as the new hunting goes both, one is just up the road and the other road trip. The road trip should be a dandee, about a 3 hr drive but in ky.

Both places sound good to me. I'm always ready for a road trip...sounds like we're going quail hunting in western KY, since that's the only direction that you can travel three hours from your house and still be in KY, and if you go three hours west, the only birds available with huntable populations are quail. How close am I?

As for the pups, yeah, I have one that I like so far, but it will be another few months before anything could happen that would make me really proud. I just have never had a setter pup that would naturally back stand. All of them would eventually, but that was after considerable training, profanity and electricity. This one just started doing it on his own a couple of weeks ago, while playing in a field and sight pointing butterflies with his littermates. I still have a lot of work ahead, we're still working on basic obedience stuff...come and heel, with whoa coming in a few weeks, pen raised birds in September, and wild birds in October.

Y'all putting in for the Clay shoot this year?

GSP & Birdman:

yes, we plan to put in for the Clay hunt again this year. We had a great time last year even though our cameraman got lost and didn't show up until after the excitement was over. I was considering putting a beeper collar on him this year to keep up with him. Maybe a beeper/e-collar combo would work best for him.

Whoa on that combo. We'll try that dance again if you want, and I'll try, and I say try sonnn, to get there on time. We're not going west big guy we're going south. Sounds like those pups are doing fine. I'm going north in oct. myself if everything goes well at home. We go next month to see. My young dog is coming along good, just needs to be on birds.

Birdman, how do you travel 3 hours south of Paintsville and still be in KY? Maybe you're talking about south west and the Big South Fork area that we've discussed in the past. Wherever it is, count me in, as long as its on a weekend, just let me know the date and time.

As for the e-collar, maybe we should get input from GSP to see if he thinks electro-shock therapy would do you any good.

Hopefully, next months check up with go good, and you can take a northwoods road trip. We will be in northern WI from October 5th thru the 19th, so maybe if it works out you can stop off going to or coming from MN for a day or two. We have a 3 Bdr cabin, so we should have plenty of room.

Also, check your email for a commissioner update.

You've got it big guy South Fork it is. I think I'll be leaving on oct. 15th. so it's possible we can hook up. Has anyone got any birds that'll fly? GSP do you go north? And watch that shock treatment stuff.

Grouse, a e-collor would never work on him. Do you know what happens when you apply electricty to a dead short? It just blows the fuse!

I have never made the trip up to the north. Not that I wouldn't! Just never had the chance.

Ronnie there is a guy up in Morgan, close to Johnson that has some birds. I don't know what and how old. I'll get you his phone number.

Hey Grouse, I found your cameraman last year. He was on the wrong farm. I think he let the dogs read the map.

Hey birdman got room for one more in the big south fork ? If your looking for some good flight conditioned quail I can highly recommend two outfits that I've personally bought from. the first one is with "sky Blue Farm Game Birds" a fellow by the name of Danny Downing. He's in houstonville, a little town south of Danville on hwy 127. his birds were as good as any wild ones that I've ever shot. the second is "lake Cumberland Game Birds" this fellow is out of Monticello KY, on hwy 92. He even has a web sight, www.lakecumberlandgamebirds.com. I bought some of his birds back in early summer & they were excellent flyers as well. Hope this helps....Grousegunner
