Thunder Head

Now that we are getting some rain the hogs have started using the fields again.
I was headed tworads the spot were i found the most sign yesterday. I had to circle the pasture to get the wind in my favor. As i passed by the head of the pond hogs went everywhere. I crouched down and waited. All the big sows went down the creek and into the jungle, but some of the babies and smaller hogs stopped short.
I eased down to the dam and glassed the creek bottom. Some of the hogs went down into the creek and some went into the long grass to graze. I started to move on the pigs in the grass. There was a white and black spotted piglet that must have wieghed 10 pounds. The little sucker saw me and ran down in the creek. I took a few steps and had to freeze as another small pig came out of the creek. I am frozen in a half crouch just waiting when here comes my little spotted buddy. There is a nice young boar behind him. My little buddy heads dirrectly for me. With only a tall weed between us there getting too close. The little guy must be five yards when he stops and stares at me. His big brother is staring at me also, and now my legs are starting to shake. Finaly the little guy turns and starts feeding away. As soon as the bigger boar turns his head to nibble on some grass i draw and smoke him through the shoulders. He only went 20 yards.
Time 6:45. I paced off the distance to my arrow. 8 Steps :)
On my way out i stopped off at the pond. They were bedded in th edge of the water. Pigs and water go together like cookies and milk.
