There are some real muskie experts on here, you have come to the right place! I don't fish for them but have in the past hooked up with several in the Licking river.I hooked 4 in one day on a large green beetle spin. Hooked a few on a 6 inch rapala. I think you have to be in the right place at the right time for them, some days you see and hook them up all day, other days just the opposite.Going today below the dam at Cave Run, will give you a report on sightings.

Too, if I am not mistaken I think I read somewhere once that it took an average of 100 hours of fishing in Ky. to land a keeper muskie, but since then that had changed to an average of 17 hours, keep pluggin' at em', they will come!

Hey! I fish for muskies all the time in the creeks and streams around my house. Some of the baits that i have found the creek muskies like are any colored bulldawgs(regular sized), shad or white colored crankbaits, shallowraiders and small bucktails. If you are planning on ever fishing in lakes for muskie i would go on ahead and get 80 pound superline(Power Pro or Cortland Masterbraid/ Spectron). If you are just gonna be fishin the creeks, 30-50 pound test superline would be fine. Dont know anything about barren but mostly all creek muskies are the same. Hope this helps and good luck! Please pratice catch and release!

Caught a keeper at Cave Run using a white tandem spiner bait fishing for bass I know I was lucky but saw a couple more following the spinner bait in.

Come to Cave Run Lake this fall and try it. The Licking River has been pretty HOT recently for musky and some BIG smallies!! We throw buzz baits, medium sized crank baits, and 1 oz. Grim Reaper spinner baits. Check your PM for more details!

What do you guys reccomend for a leader? Do you use wire leaders? Or heavy mono? or no leader? or what?

Thanks

Isn't this why they call muskie the fish of 10,000 casts?

I use 150# Fluorocarbon Leader by Seagar for most everything except jerkbaits, then I use a stiff wire leader.

For best results on "catch and release" use a 10 lb. mono!:D Works for me!;)

I caught this fish back in the spring of 2006 on 8lb test line, spinning rod with a hard jerkbait. It weighed around 20-25 lbs. guessing. Caught it in late March in a Fishers of Men Tournament.
