Deer like Watermelon ?? I had not gave it much thought untill today. I stopped by a roadside stand a couple days ago and bought a big one for $2. Got home and cut it open only to find it was not quite ripe yet. I took it down by the feeder a while ago and tossed it on the ground. When the afternoon deer herd showed up they just about ignored the corn and went straight for the watermelon. They have in 30 minutes ate it down to the rine. It even resulted in a couple good fights with hoof's flying between two of the younger ones.

I remember a few years ago while i was hunting this farm where my uncle had his garden at the edge of field where i was hunting.Ever evening at the same time there was this little spike that would come to the watermelon patch. He would take his foot and bust one open and eat ever bite of it.I thought it was unusual but i guess not.

they like all sorts of melons....cantaloupe, honeydew, and musk melons are just a few I have seen them go for....They can do alot of damage to them if they are allowed to ripen on the fine too long.....They stomp them to get to the fruit inside....Ever seen a deer stomp a hedgeapple and eat the insides of it?

I worked a watermelon farm growing up in SW Indiana. We always had deer and coyotes in the fields eating melons (yes - all melons)

When I first started a garden on my property I was concerned about deer tearing it up. I came up with the plan to plant watermelons down at the bottom of the field where the deer tend to gather hoping to keep them away from the rest of my stuff.

amazingly the problem never occured and I never had to test my plan. but many people told me deer will tear melon up
