I'm looking at a farm in the Gravel Switch area of Marion County. Could anyone tell me about the turkey and deer hunting in this area? Thanks

Lots of deer and turkey. That's my neck of the woods.

Depends on the area . You would have to be mnore specific for a good answer.
I used to drive for FedEx in that area. I can just about tell you anything you want to know about good spots in Gravel Switch. I now hunt just down the road in Forkland.

Saw 6 bucks together Monday P M about 2.5 miles East of the school. Also saw 3 bucks on Minors Branch close to the tract I used to own.

I used to drive out that way a lot of evenings right before bow season opened up each year when I used to live down there. We used to spot light (when it was still legal) all the way from Junction City to Gravel Switch -- always saw a ton of deer. I think we counted more than 100 deer one particular night along the way. Saw one of the biggest bucks I ever saw in my life out that way too.

I was on that road Tuesday (Lookig at a tractor that will auction this Saturday) and saw 5 deer and 1 coyote on the property that will also sell Saturday ( 169 acres ).
All of that road should be good . However if I had a choice for most of it I would chose the South side.
Honestly that is probably one of the not-so-good areas in Gravel Switch. That area is fairly open, sees a decent amount of traffic and there's a lot of homes and dogs.. It's surrounded by great places but I would think the hunting is not real good on Riley Rd but I could be totally wrong.

Dipits,
I see the same Bucks every day from my front porch. I'm thinking about shooting one Sept 1st @ 7:33 AM. I thought about putting up a privacy fence close to the road but people would just climb it.:D

Marion county and Southern Nelson county used to be real bad on poaching. I think its much better than it was. I was told by someone the other day that the State police have even been stopping people that are out looking at deer. Talked to a guy who said they searched his cooler and everything. I think thats great. You guys that live there agree that the poaching is way down?

Had a CO tell me that they almost had to replace the robo deer after they set it out down around New Hop, Gleanings area. Said more people shot at the thing than any other location, and more people shot at it multiple times than at any other time. Thats been several years ago, and I have heard its better.

I have trouble with people driving in my field close to the road using there head lights to look at the deer. I have one buck that would be a 10 pointer but one side of the rack is broke off leaving only the brow tine. I wonder is somebody tried shooting him and shot off the antler. Also have problems with people on 4 wheelers doing the same thing. I thought about putting boards down with nails but really hate to be that way.
Did you all see my picture that was on the wall in the Forkland store about 3 or 4 years ago with a nice buck?:D I thought I had a nice one, then some guy came in during late ML season and shot a hog, on the run, after he just had got out of his truck. I had never seen the one he killed. There are some HUGE bucks down there, but it's hard hunting back in the knobs.

Gleanings did use to be bad. Still think deer are shy around there My dad had a poacher shoot in his direction he was hunting 300 yards from the road. He was in the wood line probably 60 yards. I guess they saw his orange and thought they would mess with him. My dad heard the bullet slapping the trees around him. He was pissed. He said they about caught a 7mm mag to the head lights.

You might want to consider joining up with the cornbread mafia, they tend to have connections in that neck of the woods. ;)
