Well, I'm a bad one to ask. I've now had about 25 "places," i.e., scabs, on my legs for the last week. The only way I can get them to stop itching is to scratch 'til they bleed. . . .
so I'm anxiously watching this thread also.

After you scratch them till they bleed, rub them with full-strength Purex or Clorox. It is the quickest death for chiggers I have found.

Do't want chiggers and ticks?? Spray clothes, sock, boots, tennis shoes with Permathone.

Use Permathone, of some other bug spray, keep your pants tucked in your boots, wipe your legs down with pure bleach when you get home.

I carry soap and water with me on each hunting trip, especially in the warmer time of the year. When I get back to my truck I just take a wash cloth and soap and wash my legs, arms, face, ect. Not really had much problem using this technique.

For me, staying out of the woods from April-October is the only way to keep from getting eaten alive.

All you have to is get some clear fingernail polish (clear so no one will make fun of you), and put it on the chigger. Make sure you seal it good, and it will stop itching. If it starts, apply another coat. I know it sounds crazy, but it works.:D

I got some when I was picking Blackberries awhile back. I even had permanone and pants tucked in my rubber boots. The nail polish trick does work on chiggers. However, this time of year the little tick nymphs are just hatching and you can brush up against a bush and get a whole nest or wad of them. They look like little dots, like you dot an "i". or for that matter, this . Anyway, they are to young to latch on, they don't take much to feed, so that bite, inject their anticoagulate (?sp) and drop off. What you are left with is a little red bump that itches for three weeks. It doesn't itch because of the bite, but because of the chemical it left behind. Therefore, the nail polish will not work on them, just time.

chiggers do not get into your skin.the chigger is red and it hides on top of the skin for a little bit then falls off to continue its life cycle.

Chig-a-Rid is the only cure. They sell it at Rite Aid or any Pharmacy......

Here is what it looks like. http://www.privateway.com/chigchigandi.html

I use Deep Wood Off, during Squirrel Season. Chiggers are usually found on one's ankles; and if you look closely, under a light, you can see them. Just get yourself a piece of Duct Tape and wherever you see these little bugs, just grab them with the sticky side of the tape.

Stay out of chiggery places. Ive found that viney, overgrown places always have chiggers so I look out for vines.
When I get them SQUEEEZE the fluid out of the bump...HARD...IT HURTS.
But the relief is immediate and permanant. It is the poison theyve left in you that causes the irritation...GET IT OUT and you will forget all about the bites...at least till your next batch.

Permanone, Sportsmens deep woods bug repellant from Repel, used liberally, and a good pair of Edgewater Mids Muck Boots............
