I may have the opportunity to make a short trip to Florida in early October. I have always visited Florida in the spring and summer, but never in the early fall. What do you think the air/water temps will be? will the fishing off the beach/pier/jetty still pretty good? I may try to take a boat trip on a party boat if I get the chance, but I don't know if that will happen or not. I just can't visit the beach and not wet a line or two, so if you have any info on fishing the gulf in the fall let me know.:)

Beach fishing is as good or better. Usually the water is clearer, unless there has been a tropical storm nearby. Beach is less crowded as well. Finally, some of the species (e.g. snook) are now in season and not just catch-and-release!

I will at least be fishing off the beach every night I am there, hopefully catching some of those sharks again. I'm just glad to get the chance to go back one last time before winter hits.

The fishing is usually pretty good in October. Like ceg4uk said though, it can depend on the weather.
The month long fishing rodeo in Destin is in October. I have caught more in October than I wanted to haul home in years past. I didn't go out last year because a cool snap and full moon had killed the bite the week we were there.

Hopefully the weather will be in my favor, and the seaweed will retreat since the last time I visited. I am also hoping to catch some last minute snapper and amberjack.
