Everytime I watch a show with a person wearing or advertising a scentblocker suit, the deer always stop ahead of time or smell something that alerts them?

I realize this thread will attract some attention, however, just yesterday yet again, a show titled, "Scentblocker just hunt" came on. As I was watching, this man was hunting in the snow with cold temps. No wind, just open hardwoods.
As this buck was walking thru the timber well before any shot was presented. The buck stopped, sniffed, looked in the general direction of the hunters and turned and walked away. I started laughing, and the hunter quickly tells everyone that since the buck was broken up he was going to pass it anyway. this is not the only time I have seen this happen on a show.

I know their are many factors besides a scentblocker suit, that would alert deer. I understand that. However, this is just a pet peeve of mine.

I know quite a few on here have and wear a scentblocker suit. Some swear by them. I have dabbled with carbon activated suits and I have experienced no difference what so ever. I'm just not sold on the idea.

Go back to basics, keep check on the wind, approach your stand accordingly, use cover on the ground or in a tree as much as possible, and use the sun or shade to your advantage.
That's just what I would recommend, but that's just my .02 cents...

I remember killing deer with a orange sock hat, flanel shirt, and a hangover.

I think the scentblocker type clothes do help mask our human scents but you still must do all of the other stuff like scent free soap/shampoo, scent free deodorant, etc...and yes you still must watch the wind. Like I said, I do think the suits help but they do not and could not possibly abosorb and contain all of your human scents. It is just not possible. The only suits that I think would do that 100% are the military type chemical/disease control suites that are airtight and you have to wear oxygen supplies inside the suite to be able to breath (not the suites that you use a gas mask with). I would really like to see someone try to hunt in one of those get'ups...........:D

If you didnt have any luck with a carbon suit then you did something wrong. I wear scentblocker head to toe, shampoo, spray.......... Last year i had a 2 year old 7 pointer and 2 does directly down wind, and they did not smell me. Believe what you want, if you dont like it dont buy it. There will never be a way to mask 100% of human odor.

well, I think scent blocker is bs. You can be upwind of the deer and they can smell you and sometimes not run. I have proved to my friend all that stuff is a waste of money. I don't take a shower when I get up, don't decent at all, he does and wears scent blocker. He sits in his stand and I stalk, and who comes out ahead...me. I have crawled or walked as close as 20 yards to deer in daylight. I have a friend and uncle that both smoke in the deer stand and ALWAYS kill deer.

i have taken numerous deer with both gun/bow and for the past 15 yrs i have been bow only and have taken numerous doe/buck i never use any of the commercialized stuff..I WATCH the wind and hunt accordingly..the only thing i do for scent control is i do wear rubber boots and as i head to the woods and i use a wind detector to help me select my stand sight...I AM not saying any of that stuff doesnt work BUT i firmly believe its making someone's bank account much greater then mine..

I'm right there with you as far as if you don't like it don't buy it. As many hours and days I spend in the woods each year, I'm just speaking my mind. That's what this forum is here for. The carbon suits I have played with were the old military chemical suits. They were hot and left a residue and they cost $8 for the entire suit. There is no way to mask 100% of human odor.
I have had numerous deer, too many to count downwind from me that I have harvested. Your opinion is appreciated...Maybe it will save someone some money in the future.

Why is it? Because the system is not 100% like they try to make it out to be. Its all about marketing and fooling the minds of the consumer. You could probably dress in dense knit clothing and get the same effect. Like with anything else, use your head and choose your hunting products carefully, theres no telling how many scentlock/blocker suits are out there sitting in the back of the closet collecting dust

Big difference in military chem suits and clothes made for hunters. Doesn't make much sense wearing something that's going to make you stink more.

Also a big difference in killing deer downwind and killing big, smart bucks downwind. For those rascals, you need all the help you can get and Scentblocker clothes help some if worn properly. Now, if you don't value your time afield and don't care if you kill a big buck or not, then I wouldn't spend the money either. But if you do, then SB clothes are pretty good stuff and are made with the hunter in mind with all sorts of options that will make you more successful.

While I have not taken any monster deer, I have taken a few deer, and I wear no scent blocker, and in the winter my coveralls are all orange (if its really cold) if not I am in a camo bib set with orange jacket and hat... Always see deer

No matter what you do you can never be 100% odor free. I dont wear scentlok or anything like that, but i do shower with h.s scent away body wash, and shampoo the night before i hunt, i store all my clothes in a scent free container, i wear rubber boots, and i always spray down with some kind of scent killer product before stepping into the woods, and most importantly i always watch the wind direction and hunt according to the thermals and barometer. Im sure scentlok and scentblocker suits do help. Anything you can do to help lower scent dispersal will help fool a deers nose, but you'll never be able to completley fool a deers nose. Especially a 4+ y.o buck!
