Hey CSS, I've got a bunch of weeds and a small amount of fescue coming up in my clover plots. I read somewhere about making a PVC pipe drilled with tiny holes and wrapped in cloth and then filled with roundup. You then lower the pipe to a distance above the clover and drive around. The pipe is capped off on the ends to avoid spillage of roundup. Is this a good way to get rid of the unwanted without doing an all out spray? Also, will roundup kill thistles?
As always, thanks for the info.

I saw one of these made up in I believe it was the QDMA magizine. It looked like about a half day project to make one.
You would use probably 3" PVC for the barrel. Drill and tap several holes ina line for some nylon 3/8" I.P. X 1/2" copper ferral fittings. You then make loops of a wick type rope that they said was available at the Co-op's. Both ends of the rope were inside the main tube.
I'm trying to remember the herbicide that they recommended--maybe it was Vanish??? or something like that. IT's supposed to kill everything but legumes. From what I read, it's only effective early(pre-emergance). I was going to try and do the same thing, but decided to re-do the whole field instead.

Hey Strutter,
I've found that Roundup is not very effective on thistles. You might try spot spraying them with 2-4D if your talking about a small field. You could also spray the clover field with Poast if most of the weeds you are referring to are grasses (Poast doesn't kill broadleaves, just grasses) Hope this helps.

Hey Strutter,
I'd recommend mowing to knock the weeds out of a clover stand.
