This is a story that I just have to share. It’s not your everyday story and for some of you it will probably be hard to believe. I understand that, but believing this story is not an issue with me because it’s about my sister and she shared it with our family over dinner this past weekend. My 28 year old sister recently lost her best friend in a car accident. They grew up together, graduated high school together, and reunited by moving to California together after college. As my sister shared this story with the family (of course she was crying) the hair on the back of my neck stood up……..but in a truly great way. The following story is about loosing a loved one, and receiving a sign from that person….
Obviously crushed, my sister said there was one thing that hurt her worse then the pain of loosing her best friend, the fact that they’re last conversation was a bitter argument. My sister could not cope with that fact that she wasn’t on speaking terms with her best friend when she died. They had honestly spent a life time together, and closure was impossible for my sister because of their dispute. It was two days after her best friend had passed away at 27 years old. My sister, who isn’t by any means a jogger, woke up and for some reason felt like going for a run. She said it was all she could do to try to clear her head and maybe shed some guilt. As my sister was running she noticed a humming bird directly beside her and moving along with her while she ran. She thought this was amazing so she stopped, and so did the bird. My sister just stood there and starred at this humming bird, suspended in the air directly in front of her. In a sort of awe my sister placed her hand out and the humming bird landed on her hand, it looked her directly in the face for what felt like a few minutes (more likely a few seconds) then flew off. My sister wasn’t quite sure what to think, but felt very moved and very astonished. During her friends funeral the next day (or maybe even the next day), an aunt stood to give the eulogy. The aunt started by saying “when Brooke was a little girl, I once asked her, Brooke if you could be any animal in the whole wide world, what would you be? Brooke thought for a minute and said…….a humming bird.”
My sister dropped to her knees because at that moment she realized while on her jog, she got the sign she had been praying for, she got one last chance to make things right with Brooke.
