If so, how do you like it?
I'm due for a new phone and can get either of those free. I could care less about being able to watch music videos or browse the web on one, but I do need it to have good reception.
I found a phone that appears to be virtually indestructable and a hunting/fishing dream but the thing is about the size of the first analog flip phone that I had years ago. :(

i like my razor and it has taken a beating over the couple of years ive had it. Also motorola has some software that you can use to back up your phone on your computer, which is handy

How's the reception on it?

My daughter has had a Razor for about a year ... so far its been good. Reception has been good and usually better than my MSU issued Nokia. If I was going to buy one... I would give the Razor a hard look.

Sounds like the Casio G'zOne. I've got it and it's great. Pretty much waterproof and indestructable, plus it's got the GPS Navigator on it which works as good as any could could buy aftermarket.
My wife has the Razr and it's a womens phone, I wouldn't want it for myself.
I had a Razr. The reception wasn't that good but wasn't that bad either. I didn't like it a whole lot. Frequently when you would make calls it would make a buzzing sound. Very annoying. I have owned several motorolas and swore that I wouln't own another one. I have a Nokia now and am much happier with it.

I've got a Razr, my second one. It's junk, I think. It can't take abuse really well. As stated above, it buzzes, it doesn't get reception in areas that other flip phones with an antennae get receprtion, and sometiems it just won't complete a call. It sits and "thinks" for 5 minutes.
I would look for something that has an external antennae if reception is the number one feature. Alot of the stuff that Sprint/Nextel sells is more rugged than the other major carriers.
Good luck

I have a Razr. Its done good considering the second day I had it mom spilled a glass of water on it. Its walked itself down the stairs a few times and falls out of my car all the time. Its been through pretty much anything and works fine. I can get reception on different parts of my farm in Morgan Cty. And have no problems in the city.

Had a razr. Neat phone, I liked it. Make sure you have insurance though. Pretty much all of my friends have them as well. I think everyones besides 1 persons has given out. The screen stopped working on mine and the buzzing sound during calls is right on. I would take a chance on another if it was free. But, I wouldn't bust out that $250 again. It's not very durable at all.

That's the one. It's pretty big from what I have seen and not really something you can throw in the pocket of a pair of khakis. This year's model is smaller but still pretty heavy (and it would cost me) .
How is your reception? I've had one report of great and 3 of horrible.
I've got to stick with Verizon for business purposes or I would probably do something else (although I've been with them forever). Cingular has a lot better reception in this area now.
Thanks for the replies so far. The razr has been out so long I'm afraid they'll replace it with another model in the near future. I've had that happen on my last two phones and not having service support 6 months after you buy one stinks.
Are phones a "get what you pay for" situation still or does pricing simply reflect the time on market now? I've had my current phone for over 2 years so I'm somewhat behind the times on these things.
Any suggestions on a good phone outside the Motorolas?

Samsung and Nokia make great phones. As far as reception goes flip phones stink. They can't even compare to the "candybar" style. I am not a fan of motorolas. They knew about the buzzing problems in the razr. When I contacted them about it (my phone was still under warranty mind you) they wanted me to pay to have it shipped, have them determine if the problem was my fault (at which point they would charge me), work on the phone, and ship it back to me. Estimated time was around 2 weeks. The whole time I would be without a cell phone. It just seems like motorlas don't compare with other companies. Just my .02

A friend and I talked about this a few weeks back. To me, it seems that Motorola is always cutting edge with phones and designs but lack the quality. Nokia is a little behind but makes up for it in quality. I haven't had a Samsung, but I'm considering the BlackJack for my next phone, or possibly the IPhone from Mac. My wife had an LG that was a great phone, but again, lacking in features and design.
Like everything else in the world, you can never have the best of everything. There is always a compromise.

My sister was espousing the virtues of her Samsung at the hospital last Friday when people started calling me on my two plus year old LG because her Samsung wouldn't ring. :D
That's one thing I miss about my old analog phone. I could talk on that thing anywhere.

It's smaller than a nine and they fit in a pocket all the time. No, it's not small as cell phones come, but it's a deluxe phone. Says you can dunk it for 30 minutes at 20' deep and it will still work. I can talk anywhere with it through Verison, not sure about other networks, but in most of Ky. they all use the Bluegrass towers, so it should be the same.

I just read a review where they were using the phone underwater at a swimming pool. They couldn't get a signal in the water but the phone still worked and they were even taking underwater photos with it. :D
They way downgraded the camera on the new version and all of the reviews say the new display is nearly impossible to see outside because of how dim it is.
Seems like it's two steps forward and three back for new cell phones.
I have, and have had, a Razr for some time now. The reception in acceptable, not great but better than some of the other phones that I have had in the past. The buzzing is something that I cannot get past (ask keith). My wife's Razr does the exact same thing. Really, really annoying. The postitive sides are the size and durability. I love the fact that I can fit it in my front pocket and really never know that it is there. My phone has been dropped more time than I care to count and still works. If you get one that does not have the buzzing, I don't think you can go wrong with the Razr.

i have a razr, i get pretty good reception, and like anything else sometimes i can talk when others cant and vice versa....cingular seems to have a good coverage are where i live, but i do seem to drop a lot of calls with reception bars showing. if cingular does in fact have the fewest dropped calls, the rest of the cell phone world must really be in bad shape. i drop at least 3 calls per day in town.
the phone itself seems to be tough, it has been thru a treestand fall of about 20 feet, been run over by the mule, and thrown across the room by my kids and it still works. labs constant humming sound, well, yes, it is quite annoying...he blames that on the phone:D my guess is when he hits certain towers in his area thats when it happens, but i dont think it is the phone. probably when he is in an analog area...i will say mine does not humm while in his area...

It is the phone speaker itself causing interference.

My mom and sister both have a razr and they are the best phone "I" have ever used. Between personnel state and govt phones thats a lot. Reception is the best i have had but then I live in eastern Ky and reception is a crapshoot anywhere around here.
