Im still in the process of building my AR..its going to take a little bit longer than planned because of money. But...I've been thinking about getting an Eotech 552. I friend at work told me about trijicon...anybody have any experience with them?

The EoTech is by far the darling of action rifle / 3 gun match shooters these days. The dot is bright enough for the most sunlit days at the range. Of course they use battery that is going to run dry sometime.
Trijicon Reflex (I assume is the model under discussion) is designed to run with ambient light or battery and (IIRC) works with night vision gear. Not junk by any means but I do think you'll run into visibility issues in dark/light shooting areas (like aiming at targets in the sunlight while you are undercover, shade etc)
Really, just two good sighting systems that address different needs.
There will be an action rifle match near Madisonville on the 4th Saturday in July. There you could check out several types of sighting systems the folks are using. I use a JPoint (http://www.jprifles.com/1.6.1.php) but if I was buying today I'd get the EoTech.

Thanks, I'm leaning towards the eotech, I've read as much as I can about both and it seems better for what I'd want. I'll try and remember that match date. I've been trying to make it to some of the ones at GR gun club but something always comes up.

Eotechs are very nice, but $$$$$. I went with the Bushnell Holosight and have real good luck with mine.
For me the holosights are good for about 75 yards.
For longer shots I prefer open iron sights of a scope.

Brian, I would go with the Eotech. I think you'll love it. The ACOG is super nice but real high. I am currently using a trijicon accupoint 1.25-4 power scope on my 3gun ar but am going to go to the Eotech soon. Give me a call before you buy and let me see if I can get you a deal on something.

I had an Aimpoint Comp M2 on my M4. I sold/traded it for a Eotech 552 and never looked back. It is by far the best option in it's class. The Trijicon ACOG's are AWESOME but serve a little different purpose. They are also about 3 times the cost of an Eotech. If I had an AR set up to shoot to 300 yards, the ACOG would get the nod. For Inside of 300, I'll stick to the Eotech. The Eotech has no magnification and for the most part, the ACOG's are 4 power. If you want to get out a little further, look for a more powerful scope.

this first one won't be a long distance gun so I'm going with the eotech. Thanks guys...now just have to pick out the upper and start saving again!:D I already said something about picking up extra hours at work and my girlfriends mom asked if it was because I was getting her a ring, I told her it was for my ar...haha

IMO,unless you're going to shoot competition, I wouldnt drop that much dough in a holo. You can pick one up in sportsmans guide for about $50 or maybe this sites sponsor,UNCLE LEE'S, has one. Definatly not high dollar sites but should be sufficiant for plinking and home defense.

I agreed...until you said "home defense". The last thing you want is a piece of sub-standard equipment when your life or that of your family depends on it. If you are just gonna plink and dedicate a scattergun or pistol to home defense, then by all means, save the money. But DO NOT risk your life or that of your family by trying to save a buck.

yeah...I'm thinking about eventually trying some 3gun matches after a while just for fun. I am good with a shotgun and pretty gun with my pistol. Plus...why spend a bunch of money and go all out on the gun to buy some p.o.s. site?
