I've been to Vegas twice. The trip to Hoover Dam was the best, (I'm a contractor). If you want to get by as inexpensive as possible, I'd watch the shows in front of the casinos, you can spent an evening just watching the attactions. Treasure Island is good, also Freemont Street in the old part of town has a great light show and the roller coaster at the top of the tower is really nice, especially at night. I'm not a gambler, but I like looking at the sights and sounds of Vegas.

you can spend a couple days just gawking in the casinos: Circus Circus, Luxor, Paris, MGM, and a ton more are all cool just to walk around in.
The buffet in the Flamingo is awesome. Most of those casinos have great chow lines. For breakfast out of the hotel, check out the Blueberry Hill restaurant, great pancakes.
The dam is a must see if you are into architecture and all that. You can take a tour down into the bowels of the thing and it is a really neat tour.
If you hit big on the slots you can take a sightseeing plane ride over the Grand Canyon in a puddle jumper from the county airport. An AWESOME plane ride but not for the faint of heart.
When in doubt ask your casino's concierge or hospitality staff for some advice. Those casinos have people who get paid to suggest what to do and where to go, take advantage of them.

Go to Freemont Street at night. It's like a big street party and the light show is awesome. They do a different one every hour. You can also check out the older casinios, on Freemont, like the Golden Nugget.
Some of the Shows I have seen.
Blue Man Group- I would recomend.
Tournament of Kings- Well worth the money.
Mystere- Very Funny but a little expensive
O- Don't waste your money on O.
Lance Burton- Good show if you like magic tricks.
Next time I would like to do one of the night helicopter rides over the main strip.
Have fun!!!

I go to Vegas several times a year so I might be baised on most of my recomations. I go mostly for the gambling and the trips are full comps for me.
Everybody else has posted good advice and especialty the recomand of the casino's concierge or hospitality staff they know what's hot in town at any given moment.
Ever wanted to drive a real Indy car on a race tracK? They've got em. Want to fire off any machine gun ever made by man? They have them outside town.
Vegas has so many restaurants don't go to the same one during your stay unless it works out for you as a meeting place, etc. There is so much to enjoy and they are all good. If you want some recomands on which ones for seafood and steak I'll post them.

We are going in Nov. as well. We leave Nov. 2nd for a week. I sure am going to miss some good deer hunting, but I can't pass a free trip to Vegas. The last time I passed on a free trip to Vegas, I went to the Talladega Race that was rained out last year. Been kicking myself in the tail ever since. Said I would never pass on a trip to Vegas again!

Silverton Lodge and Casino is attached to a Bass Pro Shops. You walk right out of the casino into the BPS. It has some of the nicest aquariums I have seen.

Aquarium
Mermaid Aquarium Need another reason to visit Las Vegas? Silverton casino has recently opened its new expansion, which houses several beautiful salt and fresh-water aquariums, which are free to the public.
The main aquarium is a 117,000 gallon artificial reef which is home to over "4,000 tropical fish from all over the world, 3 species of stingrays and 3 species of sharks. The aquarium is a beautifully designed octagonal aquarium with viewing on all sides. The front viewing window is an impressive convex window that extends 25’ X 12’ and is one of the largest single piece of curved acrylic in the US.

This aquarium is home to two different underwater shows, the first being an interactive fish feeding show where one of our staff marine biologists dives in our aquarium with a full-face communication mask that allows him/her to interact with our guests while feeding our animals. There is also a question and answer portion where you can ask the diver any question you'd like. The show occurs thrice daily at 1:30pm, 4:30pm and 7:30pm.
Jellyfish tanks in Mermaid LoungeIn it’s Mermaid Lounge, Silverton features two 500-gallon jellyfish aquariums that cycle to hypnotic LED lighting, displaying the jellies in seemingly endless colors. The lounge boasts a watery theme from its light blue décor down to its ameba lighting; never mind the 60” plasma TVs.
Trout tank with logAs you meander through the casino and make your way to Bass Pro Shop, you cross over a beautiful 18,000 gallon water feature simulating local rock formations at Red Rock Canyon. This water feature houses over 100 strikingly unique Koi.

In the Bass Pro Shop there are three freshwater aquariums. The first aquarium is a 4,000-gallon representation of a spring fed Nevada stream. A rock background and fallen log give the featured trout plenty of hiding spots and areas to spawn.
The second aquarium is a 20,000 gallon Nevada lake display. It houses enormous channel catfish, huge carp and bass that would make any fisherman jealous.
The final exhibit is a 28,000 gallon rapid flowing canyon display which houses seven species of ducks, channel catfish, bluegills, turtles and even a sturgeon.

Rent a Harley from one of the rental areas and ride it to the Hoover Dam...beautiful scenery.
The free sites are enough to occupy a day or two. Just visiting the casino's is a site to see.
Have to do:
Watch the water show at Bellagio
Watch the pirate show at Treasure Island
Neat to see, the volcano at The Mirage
The MGM Grand in general.
Freemont Street.

I can't remember what the price is, but it is about 30-40 miles outside of Vegas.

The only advise I can give you is that you should have become your own travel agent so that you could have made the commission on your trip and deducted the whole thing on your taxes like I do! ;)

One thing I learned about Vegas; just because you can see it, doesn't mean it's close enough to walk to. Those hotels look like they're close because they are so big.
