Duster

Spent the morning doing a survey job with the boss in a nearby town. After we left he drove past some property in a high $$ subdivision he owns part of. He has sold lot's to the doctor/lawyer crowd for big $$ over the years. The newest home built was by a Ky state Trooper and his doctor wife. Just so happens the contractor left several concrete blocks on a skid that were left over from building this house on the edge of the street across from the house. No other houses past this house on the street, in fact no street just a dirt road that runs thru a woods.
The crap hit the fan with the boss when he told me to go to that subdivision with my grandson and load up those blocks in my truck and bring them to a site were him and a girlfriend are building a house. I flat out told him I do not steal and...NO WAY am I going to take those blocks from in front of a state troopers house even if they are on the wrong side of the road...and also will not teach my grandson it is ok to take property that don't belong to you. He got all bent outta shape...told me those were his blocks because they were on his side of the road and were his to take. As I walked away he was still insistant he had every right to those blocks..I told him as I got into my truck I bet that state trooper don't think the same way. Why don't you give that trooper a call and see if he will sell you or give you those extra blocks. He turned and walked away cussing under his breath.

You did the right thing. A simple phone call would be all it takes.

cant see where you would be in any hot water over refusing to take something that did not belong to you. i say let him stew for a while and he should be fine. if it made him mad enough to fire you over the incident, maybe you should reconsider further employment with him anyway.

You did the correct thing Duster, it sounds to me like the boss was just trying to get you to do his dirty work.

Block is less than 1.25/block and you said several so I assume it's less than $50 worth of block. I'm amazed that people would want someone else to go steal that small amount and then get mad about it.
I doesn't make any difference that it's a State Trooper...right?

You did the right thing! Heck, any normal boss would be thrilled that you are honest and respect others property! Taking the right path is always the best way.

not only did you do the right thing, if he were to fire you, you could draw unemployment.
Also, if I were fired, I would make sure that EVERYBODY knows what happened. make sure evrybody knows he is a crook.

Great job Duster for standing up for what was right in both issues.
1. for not getting the blocks, since they didn't belong to you.
2. You stood up to your boss for asking you to do this...:)

If they are his block, have him go with you to get them. Leave the grandson home.

the thing to do is go buy some blocks and take them to your boss and tell him that although u will not steal for him u will help him because u know he needs some blocks . after he thanks u and feels bad he will pay u back many times over . if he does not u can always steal the blocks back cause he has already showed u he is a thief and deserves no less.
if he fires u whip his ass and tell the trooper u caught him stealing his blocks and had to beat him up to stop him. might as well make some points with the law outta the bs.
