I'm sure that the importation would be tough, if not illegal... BUT
What would stop a group of well heeled investors from going to:
Saudi Arabia Riyadh $0.91
Kuwait Kuwait City $0.78
Egypt Cairo $0.65
Nigeria Lagos $0.38
Venezuela Caracas $0.19
with an empty tanker, buying the gasoline there and bringing it home to sell at double the price?

Did anybody catch 20/20 last night. John Stossel (sp?) did a report on gas prices and said that the consumers need to stop complaining and that media needs to quit reporting on gas because they have it wrong - we really aren't paying record high gas prices because we aren't figuring in "inflation." So if you figure in inflation and convert it over - gas was more expensive in like 1995.
He then went on to say that we need to stop complaining about record profits for the oil company. What's wrong with profits he added, profits are a good thing.
And he closed with explaining how hard gas is to produce and get .
Oh, he also used the record high prices of apples to show how its not that big of an issue.
I guess this guy gets free gas. Just goes to show how liberal abc is - fox news would never report this liberal propaganda ;)

There really wasn't anything liberal about that at all. Quite the opposite I'd say.

That is interesting. I wonder if you could tell me how much their taxes are going up along with their gas? You see, Chavez is leading them down the road to Socializm. The first step is take over the big bad companies like big bad oil and then give the simpletons their gas ration at .19 per gallon. Get the herd feeling better about things so they come togther and then throw a net over them.
This does not sound like that good of a deal to me.
Oh and for you big oil haters, I found out something interesting the other day. After finding the oil, drilling for it, pumping it to the serface, transporting it to a refinery, refining it, transorting it to the gas station, and selling it, the oil companies are only making 8 cents per gallon. That is what they profit. Now would anyone care to take a guess what the goverment profits from every gallon of gas? That is the real shame, they are taxing it between .40 and .75 cents per gallon and they do absolutly nothing to produce it. People need to get off of big oil and start looking to the elected officials for relief at the pump. HEATH

If I made five hundred thousands a year I would not complain about gas prices either

So what you are saying is if it cost the gas companys say 2.88 a gal from ground to pump they make $ .08 but when it jumps to 3.09 they don't make the increase in profit? just the gov.

Its not so much how much they make off gas but how much they make from oil. Oil companies could give away the gas for free now and still be making huge profits. I remember hearing last year OPEC only needs 16 dollars a barrel to make a profit. So it only stands to reason that big oil loves high oil prices. The oil traders use everything in their power to push the price of oil higher. They will exploit and rumor of bad news to push it higher. Even if the bad news doesn't come true they profit.
I think its funny how after Katrina the price of bottled water and generators went sky high and the government stepped in and put a limit on the price they could be sold for. They didn't do this with oil prices though. If they really believe in supply and demand then they should have let the price go as high as they could get for it. Why is it that one company is cheating and another is just maximizing profit through market conditions.

People have been moaning about gasoline prices since about 2001 when it jumped up to 1.50 per gallon. Yet, we don't blink an eye when we pay a dollar for a pint of water in a plastic bottle. 8 pints to a gallon, right?
That's 8 bucks a gallon for bottled drinking water and we can run it out of our taps for a penny or two.
The fact that we had gas as cheap as we did for so many years is amazing. We all complain, but how many have really altered their driving habits? My town is still chock full of Z-71's and V-10 Rams driven by pimply faced teenagers all hours of the day and night. Vacations to Myrtle Beach are going full swing.
I think gas will have to hit $5.00 before we decide it really does hurt.

Heck, you should come to owensboro one day. There are tons of "soccer moms" driving around in huge ford excursions hauling nothing but themselves! Not even a grocery sack in the back, I'd be willing to bet:mad:
