I don't think it'll be a success in the long run. The .17 fireball is a .221 Fireball case necked down. This is going to make the owner make his cases or buy factory cases, which will be expensive and if enough aren't sold, they will cease to exsisit at some point.

As for the caliber, it's similar to other .17 centerfires. You'll get about 4000 FPS speed with ease. It'll turne ground hogs and P-dogs inside out. P.O. Ackley used the little .17 on big game with good success. I know of one guy in Ky. who has killed several deer with one.

Souped up, you could probably get maybe 3000 rounds out of the barrel before it's gone. Accuracy will be good. Check with moosehead on this site to see if the people he works for still make .17 bullets.

The .17 Fireball is a centerfire cartridge based off the .221 Fireball case.

The .17 HMR is a much smaller rimfire cartridge based of the .22 magnum, and the .17 M2 (Mach 2) is based of the .22 LR case

.17 and very fast rounds such as the .220 Swift have lower barrel life than most calibers. Barrel life should be longer than the other centerfire .17 that Rem. had had out at one time.

The .17 HMR and the .17 Mach 2 qre both rimfire rounds. The centerfires are almost twice as fast bullet vel. as the rimfires.
