I have a 30.06 that has been glass bedded and wears a Leupold Vari X III 2.5x8 in talley rings. It will shoot 150 gr Nos Bal Tip into 5/8 " for the first 3 shots and then the barrel warms up and the groups open up.

I have one in 7/08.absolute death on whitetails.I have been meaning to do some trigger work on it but i havent got to it.Still a real tack driver.Wood stock with a nikon on top.My most beautiful and cherished firearm.
My all weather gun is a Tikka T3 stainless laminate in .308.Like you i am a big fan of the .308 platform.

I don't have a mountain rifle but have owned several model 700's.
My current favorite is a Remington custom model 'c' grade rifle that I ordered from the custom shop in .270 winchester. It is one of the best shooting and prettiest guns I've ever had! And that is coming from someone that has owned some very expensive Weatherby MkV rifles.
The 700 action is tried and true, you should be proud of that gun.
Put a good scope on her, take care of it, and it will serve you and your sons well for many years.

I want to get a 700 LSS in 270 with the black laminate stock, but all the new ones will have a brown laminate. I, too, am putting a VX III or FX 6 on it.

i will sell this setup for 800.00 ,comes with nikon 3x9 x40 ucc monarch and leupold stainless base and leupold black mat rings to match the scope.
What is the difference? I have the catalog, and the varmint rifles are vlss, right? LSS is the laminated stainless steel version. That is the mountain rifle I would like. (Well actually I want the Ti, but can't afford that)

I have a 30.06 Mountain Rifle LSS. Put a Leupold Vari-X II 3x9 on it. It shoots awesome. The only problem I've ever had with it is it's operator and his buck fever. Super gun though.

theres a vlss varmit, theres a 700lss rifle, and theres a 700 mountain lss which is lighter than the lss and hAS A SLIMMER BARREL,THAN THE 700 LSS.
Trophy-not trying to be obstinate or beat a dead horse, but I can't find a 700 LSS in the 2007 lineup, that is not in a varmint caliber, or has a bull barrel. I can only find two versions of a mountain rifle; one is the LSS model and one is the Ti.
Maybe I am not familiar enough with Remington's previous models. Did they make a mountain rifle prior to this year, that was different in construction?
The only reason I am trying to pin this down is this: I am looking for a .270 in the LSS mountain rifle, and have been for a few months. The 2007 model lineup only gives a brown laminate in this year. I have found a used .270 with the black laminate (the one I want), but I don't know if it is the light-weight one.

They Only Made 2 Mountain Rifles, One Is A (dm) And The Other Is A (lss)...
Then They Have The Straight Lss Version Which Is (not) As Light And Has A Heavier Barrel, like The Bdl Just With Diff Stock..
Oh, well that clears that up. Thanks.

I own the 700 mt. lss in a .270 cal. nickle size group at 100 yrds, with 130 grain ballistic silver tips. I have on it, a nikon buckmaser 3x9 scope on it. I've used it two seasons so far and shot two deer each with one shot. an amazing set-up.
I hope I get that from mine. Do you have the black laminate stock or the brown one?

theres no black (700 mountain rifle,dm or lss) only the plane remington (lss) model are black laminated stock ones, its clear to see the diff on there web site.
only avalibe in the .280 caliber also.
I found a black one, on Gunbrokers. 2005 or earlier model. Brandon at Buds found one also, but it was too high. I think the black color I am talking about is actually their gray. Which is no longer availible in 700 LSS in the mountain version. The mountain lss comes in 260 rem., 270 Win, 280 rem, 7mm-08, and 30.06 this year.

they sill have some 270 calibers out there in the mountain rifle series, my dealer in frankfort said he can still get them, but that was a while ago.
but if not you can still find them, they have not got the j-lock eighter which is nice.
Yes, now I SEE. I was looking at one that was the lss but wasn't the mountain. I think maybe the dealer misunderstood what I wanted, also. You were right, I was wrong, and I apologize. But to tell the truth I am glad to have had this discussion because I learned alot about the synthetics/laminates. I guess I will go with the brown.
