As a few of you have probably heard me say, I go to WKU and live in Bowling Green now, and go see my mom in utica every other weekend. Well, I went home this weekend to do some things for her because she has alot of health problems. I went in the garage yesterday to change the front brakes on my truck, and notice my toolboxs drawers are a little open, nothing weird figured mom might have needed a screwdriver and didn't know where they were. Anyway, I jacked up my truck and went to get my air tools and impact sockets....ALL GONE!!! ALL of my air tools, dewalt drills, paint tools, tons of hand tools, machine tools, GONE!!! They left a $250 paint gun on the top of one tool box, and a $200 circular saw next to the other one, left a $150 titanium drill set in a draw that had 300 peice tap n die set and other expensive stuff!!! So far I my total is $4000 missing tools, and I didn't have time to go through the other cabinets in the garage....dc sherrif came and wrote a report and dusted but didn't get anything. I have probably atleast $15000 in tools in that garage and now I'm worried about what is left. Its an attached garage and I guess my mom forgot to put the door down one day when she left or before bed one night. I wasn't mad at her, she has some serious health problems and forgets sometimes, but no I'm really worried about her saftey too!! To me thats more important than the tools, but the tools missing REALLY REALLY makes me mad!!!!!!   I put a sign on the garage door that say, if you are caught in this garage you will be shot no questions asked or no warning! Homeowners will cover it but it really gets me...I'm refraining from letting out my true feelings right now because I have too!!!

I'm right there with ya... My little girl's bike was stolen last weekend... Not quite as much $$ as those tools, but it meant as much to her as they did to you I'm sure.

Start calling pawn shops ASAP!!! That's where they'll end up. Might call the ones in Evansville and Henderson too!

I hate to hear that... I hope you get your stuff back and you catch the no good bastards that did this. I'm considering getting an alarm system here above the security I already have.

These types of criminals usually get caught at some point on down the line just when you think they never will be caught.

I'm sure the safety of you'r mom is the foremost concern,as it would be with anyone. It could be someone who is aware of her condition so i'd take care of that first.

Second call the authorities and let them in on the situation, tell them the circumstances and how you'd like maybe some extra patrols through the area.Neighbors are generally better than LEO though.

Third a pawn shop will pawn anything, even if its a crackhead with a family portrait he's not in.Get a camera at least or a security system if possible.

It must be happening everywhere,I've never had anything stolen, yet my gas grill disappeared off my back patio two weekends back.Who would still a gas grill???Wasn't really worth that much, but if someone will come onto your patio and take somthing while everyone is home, kind of worried what would happen if they didn't think you were home.

Funny you should mention that... My ex's dad used to tell me stories about people stealing everything that wasn't nailed down on the south side of Chicago... He actually had a guy steal his grill WHILE HE WAS COOKING ON IT!! He went inside to get a beer, and came back out to an empty porch.. Head the thing rattling down the alley behind the house.

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having! Your first priority, of course, is with your mother. Installing an alarm system is a good idea and really not that expensive. We have one on the house and are able to leave without having to worry about being robbed while we are gone. The next thing I would suggest is going to the people in the neighborhood and let them know what happened and also let them know what will happen to the punks if or when it happens again! Chances are, the thugs that did it, live nearby and they will eventually hear about it, if not from your own mouth. I had a treestand stolen this past year and did this very thing. I didn't find out who did it, but before the season was out, my treestand was laying near the tree that it was originally in. I guess the thieves figured a treestand wasn't worth the risk of death or permanent dismemberment. I hope you catch the punks, but their sake, I hope the law catches up with them!

Does the garage door have an opener on it ? IF not you might want to install one. It would make it alot easier on your Mom as well as help with security. ;)

yeah it has an opener. It has that rolling code technology too so the code is supposidly always changing. Im heading home tuesday after finals to go through the whole garage and find out what all is missing. I had to head back here before I could look because I was 4 hours behind when I had planned on being back to study for some tough finals. I tried to get her to keep my dog..his bark was worse than his bite but it did help keep it a little safer or atleast let her know something was in the yard. He was just too much for her to handle and take care of. My little sister will be home all summer with mom so that will be good and then she only has 1 semester till she graduates and moves back home.
