Tagged out this afternoon with a derby day bird. Hadn't hunted since I think Monday. 9 inch beard, a little over 1" spurs. Didn't weigh him or take Digital Cam pics, got some on a disposable though. Setup in a grown up fencerow in a cornfield bottom with a hen decoy where I had been seeing some toms just up the hill. Set my decoy out at about 5pm, did just a little bit of calling. A couple sequences. At about 6:15 I saw one make his way across the field and then disappear and then a few minutes later had one coming down the other side of the field, locked onto my decoy. He came in slowly but surely. Right before he was in range, I looked to my left and had two more to my left at 30 yards. I killed the one in front of me at 6:41pm at 55 yards. Longest shot I have ever made and longer than I estimated him at. A whole lot of luck played into that I'm sure. Today was a lucky day. I called to tell my mom that I tagged out and she told me that the two horses I bet got 1st and 3rd in the Derby. Made a little money as well. :D I'm fortunate for the two birds I killed this year and can't wait to get back at 'em next year.
