I try and keep it a secret and I am sorry for the other guys who know about this and want it to stay a secret but......
The dept auctions all the seized property twice a year at Salato. I can't make it to the next one, but figured that the more people who turn up the more money for the dept. Its this comming Monday, veiwing starts at 8am, auction at 9. They usually have trucks, boats, fishing gear, atvs, guns, bows, treestands etc.....if they find it on a person in the field....they have it for sale....
good luck to those who go.

How are the deals on vehicles? I've got a buddy that may drive up there for it if there's a chance of getting a good deal on a truck.

Hell.....I will even be so kind as to post the sale bill. As far a trucks go i haven't ever payed attention to them, but in other state auctions they go for far more than they are worth. Everything marked with a c at the end of the item # is seized, all else is dept surplus.

the salato center is located at the game farm, approximately two miles east of frankfort on US-60.
take exit 59 on I-64, two miles north on US-127. turn left at intersection 127N and US-60W. take the first entrance to the game farm, the road may be sportsman lane now but used to be called game farm road.
in the past the guns usually went pretty high, as do most of the confiscated vehicles. auction prices vary depending on attendance, if the numbers are low the prices usually are low, more people=more bidders. get there early if you can. the parking isnt much and usually spills over onto US-60 leaving you with about a 1/2 mile walk to get to the sale site.
i will be at the Tim Farmer Archery Classic this weekend and will check out whats there. they usually have the vehicles in place in the field to the right of Salato so you can view them.

The problem with bidding on guns is you're competing with dealers and thats a hard game to win.

The good news is that the dealer needs to keep his margin, so you may not get a deal, but it will be less than at the shop. I wish I could bid at the state gun action without a ffl. I have seen some nice deals on their auction results list. I noticed that the dept. has posted the auction to their web site this time around. Usually that gets overlooked and the treasury dept is the only site with the listing.

So to buy a gun at the auction you must have an FFL ?

An FFL is needed at the state police firearm auction, but not at the fish and wildlife one at the game farm.

I tried to buy something good, kept getting outbid. The vehicles were actually pretty resonable, my buddy bought a 92 Chevrolet at a good price. The guns though were another story. You got bought some of the guns new at retail, people were auction crazy. They had a home made tree stand, it was built real sturdy but went for like 250.00. I didnt go home empty handed though, did manage to spen a grand total of 8.00 on some van seats and a table.
