Young hunter still in hospital
Times-Mail
WILLIAMS — Dakota L. Kinser of Williams remained in an Indianapolis hospital Wednesday. Kinser, 14, was listed in fair condition at Methodist Hospital Wednesday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
He was shot in the thigh on Sunday while turkey hunting.
“He stated that he was turkey hunting by himself Sunday morning, and that he had shot at a turkey and missed with a double-barrelled 12-gauge shotgun,” according to Indiana Conservation Officer Mark Farmer.
“Apparently he was going to return home. He had ridden from his home to his hunting spot on an ATV (all-terrain vehicle). As he stated, he was mounting or getting on the ATV when the gun discharged, at this point for a still unknown reason.”
The boy told officers the safety on the gun was on, Farmer said.
Kinser rode the ATV back to his home, and was transported by personal vehicle to Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Officers want to examine the gun when Kinser returns home, to see if it was functioning properly.
