I have a business, which I cannot mention the name, as you all know . But I had a lead on a new customer and tried to call her !! The first call I believe was her daughter . I left my name , and she said she would have her call me . So a few days go by and I call again , and this time I leave a message . So yesterday I e-mailed her . Told her who I was , things like that !! So I get this e-mail from her last night , that said what her and her husband had in there backyard , and what they were wanting too do . Then she says , "Well we want a builder who can spell his words right , and you spelled one wrong", I just about fell out of chair , I really did !! Then she said it seems to us that your company you build for is not very trust worthy , and we have chosen not to talk to you , with this kind of investment . Well first of all the company that I build for has been in business 48 years . So I took it with a grain af salt , and sent her a polite message back, saying sorry I am not a english major , but I am good at what I do, and your missing a great oppurtunity !! Have a great summer !! Then I hit the delete button . I guess some people are either that anal about stuff , or she is just a class B#^%@!!!:D

She sounds like trouble waiting to happen. I think you're better off.

If she can pick up one misspelling from a short email, imagine how she'd be in a house you built. "The gap at this end of the counter top is 1/16 and at the other end it's 3/32. Fix it." "The nailing schedule says x number of nails per hundred square feet evenly spaced. Some of these nails are six inches apart. Others are six and a half. Fix it". The fun will NEVER end.
My advice? Pick a builder who has screwed you in the past in some way. Tell him that you're covered up, but these folks want to build a house and that you know he'd do 'em a good job. Talk about getting your two for one special!

These are my thoughts as well. That being said, how hard is it to hit the spell check button? I think you should take this as a cheap lesson learned. I'm sure you do very good work, but you need to be a business man as well.

Ditto.
By lead do you mean that she did not call you but you called her?
That gets you an automatic strike at my house.
If someone tries to contact me an additional two or three times via calling or sending me unsolicited email after I showed no interest in returning your previous calls I may have said something a little more harsh than what she did.
If I fill out something online and request info, I prefer that I get an email back in return and not a call to my house. I assume that's how you got their email address, otherwise it sounds like borderline stalking to me. :D
That's just me though. I'm on every no call list you can get on but still get unsolicited calls to the house.

I've ran into that with trailer customers in the past. I finally had to start asking some of them "Are you wanting to haul a bunch of crap, or are you going to a trailer show?" That usually made them shut up. I had one guy get mad because a bolt on the running gear stuck out of the other side of a nut an extra 1/4" instead of it being flush. He literally crawled up underneath the trailer and was inspecting how the leaf springs were attached. Those kinds of people are just looking for something wrong, and usually they don't know what they're doing, but they're firmly convinced that somebody is trying to rip them off.

those are the people who know nothing about what they are trying to act like they know. And usually are looking to complain about everything and get a discount for nothing.

You are probably better off. But I will say this, some people judge a person by first impressions, and they use whats known as "attention to detail" to do it. If I have a bid out with three people that all do good work, and one of them gives me a bid that has misspelled words in it, I am going to look at the other two also. Appearance is everything, you know?
But it also sounds like she was a bit peeved at your tactics of contacting her? Again, your probably better off without her as a customer.

Umm she filled out a request to contact her, and I did . I mean she could have left out her phone or e-mail , but ya know thats ok !! because I am wondering if my ex has a sister I did not know about  !! I mean geesh , I read the e-mail I sent her , and it was very easy to understand , I think she has too much time on her hands!! Maybe she should worry about something else!!:D

I sure wouldn't sweat it, like the others said she sounds like she may have not been much fun to work for.

I've had customers like that. Better to walk away and save the grief. Besides they will tell all their friends,,, IF they have any. :D

Spelling is very important in our business. We give out the image of the "smartest, brightest" kind of thing. Therefore, I am only allowed to communicate by phone.:D
