What is everyones plan for the last weekend? I'm thinking of setting up without calling at all, just put my decoys out and hope one wanders my direction. I've got mixed feeling about this year but overall I'm pleased just being able to enjoy the outdoors and to enjoy the company of some of my hunting buddies and on occasion being lucky enough to see some birds.

My plan is to hopefully go with one of my buddies who is a much more experienced and better turkey hunter than I am. He tagged out over a week ago. He's called in about 4 other birds for other people as well. Hopefully he can help me out a little. I'd really rather call one in myself, just hasn't worked out. I had my chance opening morning when a tom busted me at 10 yards. He sneaked in on my right side and saw me before I saw him. I've hunted harder this turkey season than I ever have before. I've hunted every morning and evening that I possibly could, letting a lot of my usual duties stay on the backburner. I love to turkey hunt, I'm just not that good at it. I seem to do better at deer hunting. I've lost 13 pounds chasing turkeys with not one on my tag. Like you, I'm just been telling myself that it's been worth it just to see some beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Seen a lot of other beautiful wildlife as well. Canadian Geese are a rarity here in Eastern KY, but I got to see 5 last weekend floating in a small pond on the property that I hunt. I watched them for about 10 minutes when they decided to head on North. It was something to see them take off!

I've tagged out this season and this is what worked for me and my 8yr old daughter (see "Little ladys first"). I bagged a 27lb tom two weeks ago by yelping twice at first light and then waiting quiet for over an hour as the hens passed. Last weekend I put out two hen decoys and called twice at first light and never made a sound until I saw a tom at about 830. I yelped lightly and got him interested but it got broken up twice by someone on a four wheeler. Nothing seemed interested in the decoys until about 10:00 and then with a BIG tom coming in I got buzzed by a plane! No sh*t! After that the only choice was to go after them. My daughter and I stalked up a hill to within 15 yards of a tom strutting along the wood line and she blasted the 22 pounder. They would come in early with quiet yelps or after 10:30 to hens.

i'm like yeehaw21 i have hunted as many times as i possibly could i had a great opening morning i killed a bird at 6:10 but since then i've missed 2. I can't complain b/c I've had saw many beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Come this week end I'm giving it my all lets hope i can redeem myself from missing the last 2 times I've had a bird in range, but what else can i say it has been a good year for me, good luck to all that hunts the long beard this weekend!!!
