I've looked high and low for a Remington 870 Super Magnum barrel. I need a 18.5" barrel, or a longer one that I will have professionally cut down. I'm keeping the one I have for hunting, and I'll use the other barrel on it for home protection. Have you all seen them for sale anywhere? All I could find was 3" 12 guare barrels.

Keep your eyes open on ebay, there are often 3.5" barrels there.
But if it's for home protection why not go with a 3" barrel ? It will fit you receiver just fine.

Right, you can use a 2.75" or 3" 870 barrel on the Super Mag frame (and of course, use the proper length shells for the chambering)

If you really want the 3.5" chambering you can get a 23" barrel and have it cut to your specifications.

Thanks for the info guys. Its probably stupid, but I like shooting 3.5s. Gun Cat, I looked at the barrel, and for about $50 more I can buy a new 870 SuperMag from walmart. If I can't find a barrel (used for all I care) for around $150, I'll probably just buy the other gun.

Just my opinion but I think the 3-1/2 is a little over board for home defense.

I have seen what a shot gun blast can do inside a house. At close range a 2-3/4 #6 16 gauge will go all the way through a horse hair plaster and slat interior wall. Thats TWO layers of Wallpaper, plaster and wood slats.

in my humble opinion. anything over 23/4 #4 or 6 fired in a house is asking for a big mess and possibly harming someone in another room like your sleeping child .plaster or sheetrock walls just add to a blast from a 3 or 31/2 shell.

another point u may not have considered is after the shooting. i know that juries are known for looking down on ' EXOTIC" ammo.might be hard for a fellow to convince ms house wife or sockermom that he used a ordinary gun when your shotgun looks like somthing sargeant rock would carry and is loaded with shedder ammo.
just a thought.
