Went to Lewis county to hut on a friends land just inside of Tollesboro. With 3 other people. I have to say the most beautiful scenery in that county that I have ever seen. Because of the rain I did not think it would be a good day. But as several others have told me "You can't kill them sitting in your house all day". In the morning it was not too bad for the rain and I did not hear any gobbles at all. I tried Peacock calls, Barred Owl, Coyote, and even a Crow. They did not answer to any locator call. So I did the next best thing I found where they eat and come up from the bottom of a ridge. An old wagon trail is the only access to this area from the bottom. I would say it is a 30-40 foot cliff straight down. I sat there got everyone seated and ready and we waited on the wooded part of a fenced pasture that had clover, and horse droppings. I had seen them the day I was out there scratching the droppings to eat them seads and the bugs under them, also there is a large amount of Beachnut, and Accorns so I thought for sure it would not take long. A friend of mine that was with me had never been Turkey hunting before so I placed him right where I thought that the Turkey would come to. Well as we all know you can't predict a Turkey! they followed the wagon trail that I could see from about 100 yards and followed the fence all the way down to me! the whole time I could not stop my heart from pounding in my chest. I don't get this feeling from deer hunting that is why I think that I am a Turkey addict! Well the rain had not let up and the wind started to pick up, the whole time I am watching these two Turkey follow the fence getting closer and closer. When they were about 15 yards from me they found the steam from my face mask! both heads went up and started to Putt. I did not move they continued on their way and came about 10 yards from us. My friend raised his shotgun and Boom shot one on the run! I shot the other running down a hill next to me at 25 yards. The rain and wind picked up and we did not hear another gobble until later that day. But the other two friends of mine could not work the only Gobbler we heard all day. He was hung up on the other bottoms bellow us and we had to listen to him Gobble and strutt, There was no way to get down the cliff without him seeing us. Even though it was a down poor and we got soaked never the less it was a great day!
