As i stood atop a ridge @ Peabody yesterday morning, i couldn't help but notice the strange hue to the scenery. Then it dawned on me that the big trees on the adjacient hillside were brown. The smaller shrubs were green, but the big trees were brown! Strange sight for mid-April! Got me worried about this falls mast drop.

there won't be any mast, hard or soft I suspect. I can't believe all of the dead looking trees after that late frost.

The frost wasn't the hardest thing on them around here, it was the hard freeze. We had two or three nights of temps down into the mid to low 20's.
With frost you can cover things up and expect them to be okay. Even people that covered plants and trees around here uncovered them to still find them dying.

Will the leaves now have to drop before trees can sprout new ones? I've never seen this before.

I had a young pin oak tree stripped last year by japanese beetles in early summer. I watered and miracle-growed it. The new leaves suckered (old tobacco farmer term) out by the old stems. I have heard that is what will happen to the trees this year. We will just have to see.
So much for Global Warming!!
