Got to my usual listenin spot at Peabody this morning about 5:45. Heard nothing but rain as i expected. That went on until 8:30. With no fields, i felt somewhat helpless. Finally got on one about 10:30. Had him in a loggon road only 50yds or so around a bend. He wasnt particularily hot, gobbling only about 10 times in 30 minutes, then he broke & took off. I keep tryin to head him off & reposition, but his bags were packed. Heard 2 more about 3/4 of a mile, one which was fired upon twice. Bailed out at 1pm, tired, hungry & turkeyless! If its snow flurrying 2mar morning as i heard it might, i may just wait until Monday. I expect a heavy crowd 2morrow anyway!

WOW, it WAS a lousy day. I got on some right off the bat this morning. Two NICE toms, and 8 hens. I got them into about 125 yards and couldn't bring them the rest of the way in. I'll get one the next NON rainy day. I dont about the rest of you boys, but it was plain miserable for me out there. When I came in I had to ring water out of every piece of clothing I had on and dump it out of my boots. I'm super excited about getting on these birds though. They didn't gobble one time all morning. On the roost, off the roost, at locator calls, at my calling. Nothing.

If you heard one gobble, you had a better day than me! I spent the better part of the day getting soaked and cold and never heard the first gobble. With all the wind and rain I had to deal with, I couldn't have heard one unless he was sitting against the same tree. I talked to a buddy from Pulaski Co. and he said he had the same luck. If you heard anything this morning, you should count yourself blessed. If you killed one, you should count it as a miracle! :)

Was a bad day for me also---I decided to go to the small farm I can hunt on (have 3 places I hunt) today since it is close to the house and got there before day light. I set up near the edge of the farm that borders on 2 other farms and put out the decoys....after alittle over 2 hours of day light and nothing even moving I was wet to the bone....so I packed up and went home...will try it again on my next day off.

Had a jake at about 35-40 yards but held out to see if the tom behind him would close in. He made it within 70 yards, gobbled once and never came any closer. He opted for a close by hen rather than my hen decoy. Just my luck for holdin out.

Turk be glad you heard a gobble this morning. My son and I saw 7 hens but no gobblers and didn't hear the first gobble today. He was disappointed but he's tough and we'll try again!

I had the same luck as the rest of you. Held off for a while this morning due to the downpour's we were getting. Went out around 10 am for a couple hours, seen and heard zip. Had to run a couple errands and drove around the area checking out some fields. Seen several bird out in the open but was only sure two were tom's.

Headed to the blind this afternoon around 3 and sat till just a couple minutes ago, Again heard zip but did see two hen's headed to the roost area a half hour ago, then the rain hit again and I gave up for the day. Back after them in the morning if the weather is not to bad.

I hunted Warren Co. from about 8:30 am until 1:30 pm and heard no gobbles, had one jake come pretty close and four hens.

Went back and hunted from 3:15 until about 5:15 and had two jakes sneak up on my right side to about 15 yards of me.

I heard two owls hooting several times, crows calling, and some thunder, but no gobbles all day. I did hear one hen calling from across the field.

I didn't hunt from a blind so I got pretty well soaked...

I just hope I hear SOMETHING in the morning, just so I know they are still in the area:o

My day started out horrible! My father-in-law and myself pulled up to the farm we hunt on and found 2 trucks parked at the gate. We didn't stick around for a confrontation but hurried to another farm not too far away. We heard no gobbling from the roost and could not entice a shock gobble. I went back later after lunch and didn't hear my first gobble until 6:00 pm. And they had hens with them. Called the farm owner later tonight and found out that we are the only ones allowed to hunt these 2 farms. The C.O. will be paying these 2 unknown trucks a visit tomorrow if they show up.

I had about the same luck that the rest of you had. I wasn't able to go this morning, but this afternoon I headed to Ballard County to hunt with my best buddy. We went to the refuge to set up, and there was already people hunting the spot that we had picked out. So we went to another spot, but we didn't hear or see anything. We'll be back out after them tommorrow.

Just a crappy day for opening of turkey season. It rained all morning in Harrison Co. and I was hunting with a young friend (Take a kid hunting you both will learn from it.) 13 year old landowners son so we were in a blind, the rain was hitting the blind so hard you couldn't hear anything going on outside. Same spot as last year where we killed 2 turkeys but only 2 gobbles I think, if the weather straightens up I will go Monday morning. Good luck to my team 10 members

I'll chime in as well...

Crappy morning for me....got 3.5 hours of sleep the night prior, plus a whole four hours the night before that. So, I get up at 0430, and try to stay awake for the hour long drive out to where I'm hunting (Anderson county).

It's pouring, of course, and I found out the hard way that my once-waterproof jacket is not so anymore. When that dicovery brightened my day (about an hour into the field), I almost packed up and came home. Instead, I moved out of the woods (I'd set up on a spot where I've seen a lot of birds), and snuck around the back of the tree line...

Sure enough, I spot two birds. I start yelping, and their response is to run the other way....I'm guessing they saw me thru the trees...So, I decide to follow, as they ran up a BIG hill, towards a fence row where I've also seen a lot of birds moving in past trips.

Well, after climbing up said bigass hill, and finally catching my breath (God, I'm outta shape), I spot the birds again. I get down on all fours, crawl to another old fence row (this one is 90 degrees perpindicualr to the other, and has some small cedar trees for cover), and begin to call again. Of course, they run the other way once more.....I managed to glass them this time, and discover it was just a couple of hens I was chasing.

Well, needless to say, I was a bit pissed off....all that climbing for two hens. So, I find a good spot against a fencepost, admire the cattle that are staring at me (there's a bull that's getting a bit feisty...spoke to the landowner about him, and I may end up having to pay for a cow...damn thing is getting too big for his britches, but the landowner is getting rid of him this year). While I'm watching the bull watching me, I notice three birds in the field behind me.

Unfortunately, this field isn't one I can hunt. But, they all appeared to be hens, as well...at least, no visible beards. I did hear ONE gobble, but it wasn't repeated, and it was a ways off. I also heard one gunshot (not related to the gobble), and it too was way off in the distance.

So, I decided to go ahead and leave, since I was completely soaked and miserable. On the way home, I saw two more hens on the trip...both were in different places, right along the roadside.

SPent the rest of the day with the family, and am getting ready to go to my land (a two hour drive) with a friend to hunt tonight/tomorrow morning. Hope they stay in the woods, as there's only one field on my property, and it's not that big....

Cold wet weekend for 3 hens. Bummer.
Not one gobble all weekend either. Worst 2 days of turkey hunting I've ever had.

Sat out the early rain in the camper yesterday. Heard one gobble followed by a shot later in the morning. We gave up around 2 pm wet, tired and discouraged. This morning had some wind but not bad. Had two other hunters follow us in Peabody so we ducked in the woods, heard a gobble, set up and the other guys started calling too. That ended that. We moved and blind called, got a bird to respond about the same time as the hurrican force winds started. No more gobbles. Hoping for a better day tomorrow. Tom and Camo Grandma

Went this morning, heard one gobble from somewhere in the next county. Then the wind began to howl. I left around 11:00 tired, chilled, and discouraged. But, that's hunting, still better than work!! Was going to go back out this evening, but it still seems a bit windy. I hate hunting the wind more than the rain. I decided to stay in the house and have a beer! Good luck to all!!

It wasn't all that bad for us here in SW Bracken County. A neighbor managed to bag one. We were working a few until the wind got too wicked to tell if there was anything out there. I sent the kids home and now it's just me for the week.

I saw one hen from the window as I was fixing lunch. I guess that's better than some of you.

Don't feel too envious; I burned the snot out of my hand fixing soup -- typing one handed now, waitinf for the ibuprofen to kick in. Shoulda stayed out hunting !

i had a wonderful weekend. i got to spend time with two buddies on Saturday, we laughed, joked, complained, contemplated, studied, questioned, taught/learned, and enjoyed the outdoors. it was wet, cold nasty and any other adjective used in the previous posts, but that is the hand dealt by mother nature.
my weekend ended well with a harvest. i am very fortunate to have been able to just participate.

the worst two days of turkey hunting I have ever saw...I roosted one on friday, got within a 150 yds of it before daylight on saturday morning, and it didnt even gobble off of the roost...I have no idea where he went...I only heard a couple of gobbles from one tom a few ridges over from where I was...horrible weekend to say the least.

Same old song and dance, here! Crappy weather, wet gear, and frustration. But, hey, that's why they call it hunting and not shooting! The weather is supposed to be getting better throughout the week. I'm guessing it will take the birds a couple of days to get back in the swing of things. I believe I'll take Thursday and Friday off work and have a 4 day weekend. The weather is supposed to be considerably better next weekend, so maybe my luck will change. Good luck to everybody!
