I picked up a few new turkey decoys yesterday. One side of the box was in English. The other side was in French.

Do the French hunt turkeys?

Do the the French even have any guns?

Is there a Frenchman left with the neccesary "man parts" that would make him want to hunt?

Enquiring minds want to know...http://www.ohiosportsman.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Even if they did hunt them they would never kill one. The first time a bird would gobble or fan out in full strut they'd throw their gun down and surrender to it.

It's probably so that they can be sold in Canada. Even the turkeys demand that everything be bilingual up there. I occasionally find Canadian turkey hunters on other forums. It's just starting to catch on up there.

Speaking of which, before you go counting out our Bluegrass gobblers after a hard winter, I found a podcast the other day by some Minnesotan turkey hunters. They've got turkeys in their southern counties, but they haven't spread in any significant way into their northern counties. Their Wildlife folks figured that the dividing line was based on the number of days a given piece of land had 40+ inches of snow. It has to be a hard winter-- I mean a HAAAARD winter in Kentucky before you see 40 inches of snow on the ground.

. . . Just thought it was interesting.

Which brings up the old joke.

How many Frenchmen does it take to defend Paris?

Nobody knows... They've never tried it yet.

Why are the streets of Paris lined with trees?

So Hitler's troops could march in the shade!

I bought a french turkey decoy once. It came with a skimpy maid outfit and extra large breast. My advice is to only buy french hen decoys. French gobbler decoys tend to be too limp.
