I having he same problem already this year that I had last year. I hunt a 75 acre farm in Ohio county on a small mile long gravel road with 1 house on the whole road. My farm is on one side of the road, and there are some woods but mostly corn fields on the other. I went to the farm today to listen for turkeys, and there were several birds close to me, but they were all on the other side of the road! I don't have permission to hunt the side they are on, and I am having trouble calling the birds across the road. I did hear some birds that were close to the back side of the farm, and I don't know what to do really. Should I keep trying to call the birds across the road, or try and hunt the birds at the back of the farm? There are no hunters on the side where the birds are closest to me, across the road, but there were some hunters last year on the property on the back side of the farm. What calls should I try to call these birds across the gravel road to my if I choose to try and hunt them? What would you do?

They don't care about that gravel road. Get a few decoys, and wait em out. Try not to call to much. Make the curiosity kill em

I have seen them cross that gravel road before, during deer season, but last year we tried to do just what you said and they never came across the road. It is very frustrating.

Were you yelping at em like crazy last year? I've found thats been my demise on most if not all Turkey hunting blunders. On my place I watch em cross roads & a Huge ravine/Creek like its nothing at all.

you aren't calling to them now are you? two things, call shy, and against regulation.....no calling before the first day of season.....

to late for this year, but by next year it sounds like you need to offer them something to hang out on your side of the road for. I assume you have roosting trees available to them. Do you have water, or any thing to offer them to eat. Try planting some clover over there next year, I've not found a plant that they like more.

I tried not to. I usually yelped once or twice until they gobbled then I shut up and just used soft putts and purrs every once in a while. Towards the end of the season, I got more aggressive just because I was running out of options and time.

Then those youth hunters last weekend are in big trouble..:D
I don't want the turkeys on the place I hunt to even hear a call till I am set and ready to shoot one in the face.

Get permission to hunt the other side where the birds are at...find a new spot....or work up some ground....fresh dirt draws turkeys...

Sometimes decoys can hurt you in that situation having ole smart toms coming a long way and having little or no movement in your decoy setup... very unrealisitc, you just got to be patient, and lucky... Thats why they call it hunting not killing... GOOD LUCK

Like a magnet. Throw a little clover on there for later while you are at it. Of course, I have a wonderful food plot, been watching this two big monsters strut and gobble around then a couple days before youth season they pack their bags and move across the road too!!!! Scumbags!!!! I am still not sure why other than I think someone might be feeding them as they are literally roosting in someone's back door in a small sub-division. I think they will venture back across the road at some point during the season just hope I am there when they do....:D

if the turkeys can see the road put your decoys out where they can see them and hope they come to run the gobbler with the hens off.:D
Try it late in the day when the hens have left him. It may be another week or two before he is alone in the afternoon. Good chance you can pull a lonely 2 year old over.

put out about 200 pounds of corn in a pile about 20 yards from where you like to hunt.pile it high so the turkeys can see it.i think this will solve your problem:D

I would suggest finding some other areas to hunt besides just that one farm. I always like to have several places I can go, just in case my "honey-hole" grows cold. Granted, the DBNF surrounds me not to mention there are several great WMA's near where I live. So it's easy for me to make that suggestion. But if you live within driving distance to some public areas, you may want to keep them in the back of your mind, just in case your farm doesn't pan out for you.
