Notes from the first QDMA formation meeting October 28th 2003

Around 30 people were in attendance for last night’s meeting. Most attendees were from within a 75 mile radius of Frankfort. That group included several KDFWR employees, QDMA Southeast Regional Director, and deer hunters looking to make a difference.

The meeting opened with a presentation about QDM from QDMA staff. QDMA staff fielded questions about QDMA, and QDM in general.

The attendees introduced themselves to one another and stated why they are interested in forming this Association locally in Kentucky. Reasons ranged from a better local herd, to legislative issues action, to fellowship of like minded deer hunters.

The Charter of both Local Branches and State Chapters were reviewed. Those willing to take leadership positions for this endeavor offered their services. There were, at that time, four areas assigned to take the charge of forming local branches officially by January 2004. Those areas are according to the wildlife districts as District 3, District 4, District 5, District 6 and District.

I am the contact for Louisville. I will post the other three contacts for 4th District (Counties: Adair, Barren, Cumberland, Edmonson, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, Larue, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Nelson, Taylor, Washington) 5th District (Counties: Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Harrison, Henry, Kenton, Owen, Pendleton, Robertson, Trimble), and 6th District (Counties: Anderson, Boyle, Casey, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Jessamine, Lee, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, Powell, Rockcastle, Scott, Woodford) as soon as I have their e-mail addresses and have confirmed their intentions. Feel free to e-mail me or PM me concerning formation of a 3rd District (Counties: Breckinridge, Bullitt, Jefferson, Meade, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer) Branch.

In January we will also form a State Chapter. The State Chapter will meet 4 or so times a year and have a fund raiser much like the Local Branches. KDFWR verbally pledged hosting all regular State Chapter meetings on their headquarters in Frankfort, good for a central location. The leadership of that Chapter will be elected. You may, once becoming a member, nominate another member for leadership positions by e-mail to Jason Hart at jhart-qdma@charter.net

You may also email him or me for your intention to help for a local branch in your district. At this time I am the contact locally for the State Branch until elections in January.

We look forward to hearing from you all that could not make it due to whatever schedule conflicts that arose. Additionally, please contact either Jason Hart or me concerning forming a Local Branch in your District, and if interested volunteering your time with the State Chapter.

Look forward to getting QDM started here in the state. Hurry up and get here January. We need to get as many people educated as possible across the state about QDM. The sooner we get the ball rolling the better. Roger Dawson
