Looks like Kevin Durant from Texas is leaving to go to the NBA. Thats whats wrong with pro players and college players that are too good. There worried more about the money then in the game. Here is the story

I'd go pro too if I were him. He can always go back to school if that multi-millionaire thing gets boring. He's a lock to be millionaire. Gotta strike while the iron's hot as they say.

I'm all for the pureness of the game, too, but had someone ever offered to make me a multi-millionaire before my sophomore year of college, I would have taken it. He can continue his education later if that is something he values. His athletic prowess and skill won't always be there.

He was the best college player in the country as a freshman. The pro level is the only place he can better himself IMO. Like ateup said if he gets tired of all that money he can go back to school and play remember when. Heck if he wants to he could buy a school in 15 years and name it after himself.

It seems to me that some people miss the point of going to college. You go to college to get a education to help you GET A JOB! If you can get a well paying job without going to college then more power to you.
Too many people making a fuss about these kids jumping pro. If I could make $$$$$$$$$$$$$ to play ball, you can bet I would be gone.

The NBA is a totally different from NCAA. Ncaa is about the competition, tradition and the Final 4. The NBA is about entertainment and putting butts in the seats. NBA fans want to see the big name players and will pay good money to buy tickets to see them play. Guys like Durant and Oden have nothing to prove in college, so why not go where you get big $ to do something you enjoy.
I love NCAA basketball and would love to see how good some teams could be if it were'nt for kids leaving early. But the fact of the matter is, most are going to follow the cash.

Cephus is right on the money. Remember Chris Marcus (WKU's big man a few years back) he could have went in the top 10 picks had he went pro his junior year. He decided to stay and wound-up with a foot injury. He went under the knife a couple of times to fix the problem but never fully recovered from the injury. I would bet if he could do it over he would have went pro his junior year. It only takes one injury to kill a career.

Heck I'd go Pro as well, but I'd make the Kid pay back all the expenses he incurred while a Student at Texas...It was the tax payer's money who paid for his Education, so recoup the money for the time he was at Texas. Collect for every minute he was on Campus and every dime spent on him while there. This way the College could get back all the money they invested in the kids, prior to them jumping to the NBA, NFL or Hockey League or whatever it is.....
Only makes sense to recoup the money in my opinion.....

Amen. If I could make the same money as now without college and graduate school, then great. My liver would probably be in better shape as well!:D

I wonder how much money Durant brought in with his play? I am sure plenty of tickets were sold only because of Durant. I would think it is safe to say that Texas made more money from Kevin Durant than they spent on him. (assuming everything was on the up and up of course).
Look at Jokim Noah if he would have went last year he would have been 1st or 2nd and had the contract that goes with it. He came back and accomplished something great but his draft position has fallen considerably. He is lookin the be a mid to late 1st or even a second round pick. Although he won't be hurting for money his descison to return has cost him millions.

I say cash in. As I have gotten older, I look back at missed opportunities and think that I myself should have done things different.

He would have been crazy to stay another year at Texas IMO. Same for Oden at OSU.

Who says they don't love the game? They are still playing. Do they not love the game when they left highschool. Would they not love the game if he had stayed 4 years and then moved to the NBA. It's not like he left to play soccer. He is reportadly going to get 50 Million from Nike and then an awesome contract on top of that. I am sure he loves the game just as much today as he did yesterday or a year ago, he is just going to be a whole lot richer.
If he comes back he is risking about 70 million dollars. That kind of money can make a big differnce in your life and the lives of your family. It would be stupid and somewhat selfish to come back I think.

Who would turn down that kind of money? And promotions? I love college basketball and don't care much for pro ball. But, all ball players goal is to play proffessional ball and make a living. Well, he just became a multi-millionaire. Check....and CHECK.

NCAA basketball = NBA Farm Leaque
Take the money and run. No one knows if and when a career ending injury can happen.
