this is my sons first turkey, it was 24lb had a 9.5in beard and 7/8in spurs. he was a tropper we hunted hard all day out in the cold. we couldnt get the toms to leave the hens, we finnally had to belly crawl across an open alfalfa feild to get the shot, how many 6 year olds would do that. i couldnt be prouder of him.

Now let us know about the gun, load and shot. I've got a three year old and our times are coming. I need to learn these things.

all i had was a mossberg 12g 31/2 4 shot it was my brothers gun. he had to sit in my lap i put the gun to my shoulder and he put the gun under his arm looked down the barrel and pulled the trigger. the only thing i did was take the recoil. he shot it at 30yds and hit it the head. he listens pretty good most of the time. i think im going to find an h&r 20g cheap and take it to a gunsmith and have him make it to where i can put a turkey choke in it. the only gun that fits him good right know is a chipmunck 22, at least with the h&r i can cut the stock down short enough, plus they are cheap and i can get a rifle barrel for deer and coyote

thats a nice story but if the kid cant shoulder the gun it aint right imo..my boy is 11 and 20 gauge with a 3 inch shell is all he can handle ..

I wouldn't go with a h&r 20. I have one I used as a kid and my dad's 16 1100 kicks alot less than the H&R 20. I was shooting a 12 and 16 by 6. My son shoots my SBE 12 and he is 6 now. But my 12 year old just started shooting a 12 and 16 last year and he likes the 16 better less recoil. The 12 year old shot the 20 when he was 9 and wouldn't shoot anything but a 22 till he reached 11. I would recomend a 16 auto loaded with one shell at a time. LIGHT LOADS.

ar i guess your entitled to your opinon, but we used what we had and if he put the gun to his shoulder he couldnt reach the trigger so he used my shoulder and he aimed and pulled the trigger,so by not taking the recoil i guess your saying he doesnt deserve the turkey. he hunted as hard or harder than alot of grown men to get that turkey. so good luck to you this weekend
