Arkansas has finally gotten someone who wants to be there.

South Alabama coach John Pelphrey, who played in the SEC at Kentucky and has led the Jaguars to consecutive 20-win seasons, will be introduced as the Razorbacks head coach at a news conference at 3 p.m. ET on Monday, according to sources close to the situation.

Pelphrey, 38, was an assistant at Florida and helped his best friend, Gators coach Bill Donovan, build the program in Gainesville. Pelphrey took over the job at South Alabama in 2002 and is 80-67 in his five years at the helm.

Arkansas nearly had a deal in place with former Texas A&M coach Billy Gillispie, who ended up getting the Kentucky job. Then the Razorbacks hired Creighton's Dana Altman, who decided that the off-court troubles involving players in the program were enough for him to leave Fayetteville immediately and return to Creighton.

Pelphrey replaces Stan Heath at Arkansas, who was 82-71 in five seasons in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks were 21-14 overall this past season and lost to USC in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Arkansas returns everyone on its team and is expected to have a team capable of winning the SEC West this season.

I say he's gone in 3 years. I think he has potential but I don't know if that will be a good fit for him or not. I bet lots of razorback fans are scratching their heads over this one. The pickings must be real slim out there right now. All I know is that 80-67 record he brings from S.AL isn't going to get it done in Fayetteville.

I am not 100% sure, but I think Arkansas has alot coming back next year. Hopefully Pelphrey can build on what he has. Not gonna be an easy job I don't think. I hope he does well.

I went to high school with him and his mother was my world civ teacher. I wish him nothing but the best. I graduated with his younger brother Jerry and most here thought Jerry was a better basketball player.

Well I hope he has nothing but success, he reminds me of the Woody Harrellson charactor in the movie "White Men Can't Jump". Wish him all the luck in the world.....:)

I think he will do a good job, Hopefully he lands the uk job in 7 yrs. I think he would have had it this time if he was a little better known as a coach.
