I'm wondering the same thing. I have an 8 year old boy who is already talking about not playing JFL football this year so he can have more time to squirrel hunt. I hope we don't get disappointed.

We just got squirrels back good here a couple years ago. A late freeze killed out the nuts several years back and the squacks went with them.

I had 5 cutting buds on a tree in my backyard this morning. If the freeze hurt us, there will be plenty of hungry squirrels moving around this fall. We might as well harvest a limit because without mast they won't make it through next winter.

I saw a couple of Fox Squirrels cutting on buds this morning. I don't think there is even going to be any Holly berries or wild cherry berries for them to eat this fall. Don't know about the wild grapes or a few other berried plants.

Squirrel numbers around here where just rebounding from the 04 migration. This past fall the few areas I hunted where just fair, but there was areas in the county where I heard reports of an abundance of squirrels. It was spotty. This fall should be even better IF?? I know I rode down the road sat morning early and the mountains where beautiful, a lot of trees already green and the white snow laying on the ground. by Monday it looked more like late Oct. A majority of the trees looked brown. Oh well, I guess we will have to wait and see!

our local huge orchard, Jackson's Orchard was hit hard, and I'm sure that's common for this whole area. On the radio this week, he said he lost ALL of his apple and peach crops!! I don't ever remember that happening.

This is why I hate to see an early spring. It has to equal out somewhere and usually it is at the expense of nuts and fruits. At least it isn't another ice storm.
