I don't want to take up for WBBP or Grouseguy, because they are big boys and can take their own heat. But it appears as if we may not know the entire story and how it unfolded.
Not sure how many caught lachlin Mclains show last night on 84 whas. But lauchlin reported that he heard info at the press conference yesterday that would explain why so many sources had Donovan a done deal.
He thought Barnhart might talk about it at the press conf, but UK decided to take the high road and let it be.
Lauchlin couldn't tell the whole story, and couldn't reveal his source, since UK decided to take the high road and not reveal the story.
But he said this.........I can tell you this, UK has every single right to be mad at Billy Donovan. According to what I was told today, Donovan did agree to be UK's next coach.
Anybody that listens to lauchlin knows he is as good as they get, and only passes on solid info. Its obvious from his show last night that his info came before or after the press conference from UK athletic people.
It appears that its highly possible that Donovan did agree at some point. Why that changed we may never know. But it appears that we might not know the whole story.
Just passing on some interesting news.

That's past history.....know one should even care at this point. Hopefully, we've broken the Pitino mold and can move on from that time span. Plus, the fellow that used to drive for Fast Eddie is now re-employeed, so life is good!

Yes, life is good, but I'm surprised that you're embracing the new coach of UK when he's been arrested twice for DUI.
I had heard that there was a final offer on the table for him for 10 years and 50 million as a last ditch attempt to lure him here and he obviously said no. Of course that's just what I heard and that doesn't jive with anything that was said from either side up to this point. I firmly believe that NOBODY outside the UK athletic dept and Lee Todd knew anything.
I think at one point there may have been something said by Donovan that would have indicated that he was very interested in the job but I seriously doubt he personally commited to Barnhart at any point and then backed out. I also believe that any such statement was made well in the past and obviously when he looked up and saw what he has, was about, and did accomplish at FL that his feelings changed.
Personally, I think Gillispie might be a better fit for UK than Donovan could have ever been. It's funny how quick things can change in college bb these days. Donovan may be the "it" coach right now, but he's only one or 2 sub-par seasons away from not being top dog anymore.
Screw Donovan and the gators, that dog will never hunt. We have a new, awesome coach that we need to support so we can move forward and forget about the past or what might have been.
BTW- Bossgobbler will be at Murray's tonight drinking on his realtor buddies tab along with a copy of the commission check he got for selling Gillispie his new horse farm AND the check from the sale of Donovans house he just bought here 2 weeks ago.:D :D The guy must be loaded!

I think you have it wrong Art, he will be doing this over Easter ham. Tonight BossGobbler will be competing in the WSC (World Slapboxing Championship). I heard WBBP and Multi were gonna be his cornermen.

I'm not going to judge him on his past so long as it doens't become a problem here. That type of stuff happens all the time and it gets neatly covered up because of their position in the community.
He's here to win games, what he does on his personal time is a non-factor at this point. For all we know he may not of had a drink in months or years, or he may be a crackhead? We'll just have to cross that bridge when and if we ever get to it.

I hear it's a cage match where they will allow fake fingernails and purses to be used. The current champ is Ms. Ho Kim Li from the nail salon on 5th street. She swings a mean fake Gucci.

I think Billy G did a good job when the DUI situation was brought up at the press conference. He took responsibility and admitted to making mistakes. He didnt seem to try and offer excuses. Not much else he could do i guess, but he didnt run from the topic.
Bottom line is nobody knows how this is going to turn out. Nothing is guaranteed with any coach. Personally I think UK made a real good hire.

as long as he is winning, I am sure there will be no shortage of "drivers" available should he ever need one around lexington.:D what happened in the past is in the past, I thought it pretty classless to bring it up yesterday:mad:

Even more classless to have a whole article in the Herald Leader today.
The guy wasn't convicted let it be. Who even cares really. And big deal if he did do it and got out of it becuase he was a coach, who cares. The past is the past let it rest.

I take DUI issues very seriously. But, I am not the judge, jury and executioner. I have done more than my share of things that I should not have. We all make mistakes. Hopefully he has learned from them. I realize that he is just a Ball coach, but he is a Ball coach thats in a position that that can embarress the University if he behaves inappropriately. That said, let bygones be bygones and I am going to support him fully as the new Wildcats coach.
Start sharpening up those scissors that Tubby retired.

I just wanted to add my two cents worth in on the subject. I am a diehard wildcat fan as most of us are who live here in Ky. And upon learning that Billy Donovan had turned us down and I mean that literally because when he turned the offer down to coach Ky then he turned every person in this state down, so saying that I'm glad we didn't get him because if he had to even think about it for a minute then we didn't need him anyway. I was very impressed with Billy G our new head coach on how he handled the press conference. I will for one give him 110% support because I liked what he had to say and even more liked that he wanted to come here and be our coach, and when we beat Florida at rupp as well as at Florida then we will all know that we have the better coach. Billy Clyde is gonna bring Kentucky Basketball back to greatness and I predict a final four appearance in two years and a sweet 16 birth next year. I don't know about the rest of the people in the state, but after I watched Billy Clyde in the press conference and heard the things he had to say, I felt a tremendous amount of hope come back that I had lost over the past three years with Tubby. I really think we have ourself's a winner in Billy Clyde and he has a PHD (poor/hungry/desire to win) go cats. Thanks...

I've spent many hours reading posts about the search for a new coach at UK but have yet to make a post on the subject. Probably should keep my keyboard shut now but here goes. I am a huge fan of Kentucky college sports and have three teams in which I have particular interest. One is UK, another is a rather large school (guess which one) that is not very popular in East Ky and the last is a small university of which I am an alumni.
1. I feel that Billy G. is an excellent hire and I will do all that I can to
support him and the team.
2. I would much rather have someone that really wants to be here (BG)
than someone who just wants the big paycheck.
3. If Donovan had accepted the job and had been successful here, would
the lure of the NBA be too much?
4. Why didn't Donovan just say no thanks a week ago? He said that he
would consider the job but apparently did not have to consider it for
long.
5. Why did the Florida AD wait until four days after the championship to
schedule a celebration? Maybe to make sure that some students
actually attended? To talk to Donovan before Barnhart did?
I usually don't talk this much but I guess that the suspense and intrigue got to me. I think that Billy G. will return the program to it's rightful place in college basketball. The UK-UL game should be great this year and if Morehead wins as many games at it loses, I will be elated. Whooosh! I have to get my breath now.:D

How can you honestly get mad at Billy D. for not coming to U.K. I know if I was in his shoes I wouldn't have! He is doing good down there. U.K. has a new coach, get over the fact somebody else didn't come here. Its their choice. He has to look out for himself and his family...not the U.K. fans.

Ive been too busy too be on here lately but Im back to take my licks over the Donovan Debacle. I think he backed out and got hotboxed. But it doesnt matter what I think, he's floridas guy.
I dig BG though. All I wanted was a guy that seemed to care and I think we got one. Ought to be a fun couple of years. Too bad I let Tubby get to me and gave up my seats.
My next prediction is we'll be having fun and kickin florida's a$$ in 07-08 but most importantly havin fun again.

WHy didnt Donovan say no thanks earlier?...
I dont think Donovan played us, he's not that petty. There must have been more to it than we know about.

I blame the whole situation on Dicky V's whole "don't mess with happiness" lecture he kept giving on sports center. Donovan's family, even extended family was really happy in FL. So the lure of money just didn't do it for him. He has good money and fame where he is.
In the end I think BG we be better for us anyway. He has a heart and soul that seems to be for college BB. that is what we need to match the fans at UK
