Last year I tried the new Spro Frog. For $7.00 and with many of the pros using it I figured it had to be better then the Snag Proof frog I was using. However, I noticed right away how thick the body was compared to the Snag Proof. I casts and floats well, but I can't tell you how many fish sucked it in, but I couldn't hook them! For $3.00, I'm going back to the Snag Proof frog. The body is the most pliable I've found and I only miss about one out of four or five fish. Anyone else experience hookup problems with the Spro?

I did but I wasn't giving the fish anytime to get ahold of the frog. Once the fish hits I wait 2-3 seconds then set it.

I do the same thing, but the hook-up ratio was much less then the Snag Proof frogs I normaly use. I watch them suck it under, point the rod tip at them, wait then let them have it and I come up with weed mats. I used braided line, so I'm dissapointed with the frog and will go back to the Snag Proof models. It sure is an awesome way to catch them.

Braided line might be your problem. What type of rod are you using? Since braid has very little stretch to it you need a more flexable rod or just don't set the hook as hard. You may just be completly ripping the hooks from the fish's mouth. I use mono cause it has some stretch to it so I can set the hook and not rip it out of the fishes mouth.

I use the braid because it cuts through the vegetation and I can pull the fish out easier. I used to use mono until a couple of BFL pros I fished with told me to switch to braid. They said you don't want the stretch while trying to horse a fish from the slop and ever since, the braid made a big difference. I agree in ripping out the hooks if I were fishing more open water, but I frog fish in really thick algae matts with vegetation underneath.

I use a 6'6" medium heavy Pinnacle rod with a light action tip (to help cast). I don't think its my hookset because I have no problems with the Snag proof frog. I really think it's the thick body on the Spro and was hoping more people on here have tried it to see if they are having the same problem. Its a good problem to have because its really fun to see them bust through the slop, but when I fish tournaments, you hate to lose a fish.

Humm...I guess it could be the frog then if you are using the same combo with the other frog and are doing fine. The braid does help for sure in cutting through all that grass and slop. Nothing like having a lunker hit a topwater!!! No sense in changing your whole setup if you already have a frog that works for you.

You can't beat those Snag-Proof frogs. Just sharpen the hooks once in a while. I also like to stick a couple of splitshot inside thru the rear. You can cast it a lot farther.

I have done the same adding weight so I can cast farther too. It helped me alot with landing the frogs exactly where I want also.

What about the weights in the a__ end of the snag proofs? Everyone I've ever had popped out.

I also like these: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_37014_100007008_100000000_100007000_100-7-8

Good idea, how much weight and how do you attach?

I usually give 'em 2 lead suppositories of 1/8 oz each. 1/4 oz total.:D
