I'm thinking about ordering one of these fine rifles in 8mm. They also come in 9.3x57. I've just kinda grown apart from today's modern bolt action rifles, and kinda prefer the old hand crafted mausers. Has anyone bought one of these? Most of these were made in the 1940s, and many have already have drilled and tapped for a scope. The Swedes were serious hunters, and these rifles came from them. Anyway, here is a link: http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_info.php?cPath=160_228_229&products_id=702

Anyone have one of these? I just hope these Husqvarna rifles are better than the chainsaws...lol

Like you, I prefer the old stuff. I didn't check your link but I'd look one over and jump on it if the price is right.

That 9.3 is a CLASSIC African plains rifle. Loads of critters from the smallest antelope up to the elephant have fallen to that. If you've got the extra cash laying arround, I would jump on it. It looks great!

8mm is just too pedestrian..

Very classy looking rifles. If I were picking from their inventory I'd go for the 6.5x55 with the Pecar scope and old sniper mount, myself. Too cool.

I bought a Surplus 8mm Mauser last week from gun shop in New Albany, IN - paid $90 for it.

Took it out yesterday and wow is it a shooter.

It is not tapped for a scope, but at 75 yards the open sights worked great. The surplus ammo is getting harder to find. I am not sure I would spend close to $700 for a Mauser.

I'd have to really think long and hard before giving that kind of money for a rifle that old without shooting it, and having a particular need for it. If you just want a rifle, there are plenty of better options. If you think it's got some collector value, then it would be wise to have it appraised first and make sure it's not worn out or missing an matching parts.

What country/model is your mauser? They're good guns.

I actually found a site where they're about $249-$299

I like the mauser action for a hunting rifle. After all it is the action that a lot of makers copied different designs from. Plus these rifles have the quality and craftsmanship that you can't hardly find today unless you want to pay $1200. Mausers are easy enough to work on, and if something is not repairable, I'd just send it back and get another. :)
