View Full Version : Springfield 1911 A1
Can anyone offer any advice/info on a decent rear adjustable sight for a Springfield 1911 A1? Can it be installed without needing a gunsmith? Don't want anything too delicate due to it being used outdoors/hunting regularly.
Any advice/comments appreciated.

Options are somewhat limited for an easy, drop in sight. PSI makes one that use the existing front sight - but its not the toughest sight you'll see.

The old standby Bo-mar (or similar) is still the standard by which adjustable sights are judged, but they do require machining the slide for installation.

If you decide to go the gunsmith installed route and need more info, price quote, etc. just send me a PM, I'll be glad to help any way I can.
GunCat,
Thank you for the info. I think if I desire to shoot past 15 yards with clarity/accuracy I'm going to have to do something with it. The front sight completely covers the four inch diameter target at 20 yards. I think I need to elevate the rear to get the target on top of the front sight. I may be going the wrong direction on my way of thinking on this but it seems the logical way at this point.
Thanks again,
J
