I made a post about backwater catfishing before, if you think it sounds like something you would like to do...GO NOW!!!

I had just about an hour to go today and my son (8) caught 1 channel cat, 1 - 16 in hybrid, and 1 big buffalo 9-10#. I caught 1 white bass while reeling in my pole.

I don't bank fish much but I wanted my son to get a chance at some big uns and he hit pay dirt.

If you think you would like to try it the Ohio is prime right now for some serious action. Nightcrawlers or red worms is all you need, no fancy bait.

we haven't had a significant amount of rain in a very long time, where did you find this backwater that you are fishing in?

The Ohio and Mississippi are up near flood stage right now, meaning there should be quite a bit of backwater in certain areas. The Ohio has been high for several months now.

They've had quite a bit of rain north of us that would keep the Ohio pumped up.

The Ohio River is up where I live about 10 feet or more. My son and me got them again today. I should have added that what I call backwater fishing doesn't necessarliy mean floods, just at least 5 feet above normal. 10 feet above normal is a better level.

ahh thanks for the clarification. I wasn't even thinking about them getting rain north of us. I just knew that it is dry dry dry here now.

I hit it again today for about an hour. I caught 3 nice sized perch (drum) between 3 and 6 pounds. Lost another one. Pretty fun but I froze out.
