I believe it is 5 acres minimum.

If the local C.O. here is right there is no set amount of land you must own to hunt on land owner permits. I ran into him while fishing an ask the question. I guess that means you can hunt in your yard if you don't have acreage to hunt on. Even if the 5 acre rule was in effect I am still good with a bit over 15 acres. Indiana had a rule you must have something like 25 acres if I remember correctly.

Here's what the book sezs.
Who Doesn’t Need a License

The following do not have to have sport hunting or fishing licenses:

"Resident owners of farmlands, their spouses and dependent children hunting or fishing on their lands."

I think that's pretty open?

A quick check could easily determine if the land is "farm land". IS it registered as a farm at he FSA? Does the owner claim farm income/expenses on his tax return? IF not, it probably is not "farmland".

What exactly is the definition of "farm lands"? You can't 'farm' woods can you? If people want to count "tree farming" as farm land, then I guess I can count my little 1/2 acre paradise as "farm land" because I've got some small pine trees that I planted and I'm growing a bumper crop of dandilions and chickweed!

Yes, tree farming (silvaculture) is a legitimate farming practice. Do you claim farm income on your taxes??? If not, then your not in the farming business.

I looked at the regulation in the turkey guide that I had on hand. It reads different than earlier reported.

It says-- concerning those not required to have a license--
(1)Kentucky residents, their spouses and dependant children hunting on their own property
(2)Tenants, their spouse, and their dependant children hunting on farmland where they reside and work.

That makes it pretty clear, Big 58 can hunt on the 5 acres without a license, or so could any other landowner for that matter. Tenants on farms would have to first live there and also have to work the farm.
Any children hunting on these properties would have to be dependants(IRS standards) before they would be license exempt.
