I moved just a few miles from Grayson Lake and was wondering if anyone could offer any fishing info. I fished there once last summer and caught some shellcrackers and bass. I was going to crappie fish there this week and was just seeking friendly tips about this lake. Any help would be appriciated.

The only help i can give you is if you want to catch fish in Grayson lake you need to learn to run the river the Quality of fishing in that lake has never been much it is very unfertile and lacks cover very very badly up in sany creek it is a little more fertile and there are actually a few nice fish to be caught . There are some nice hybrid in the lake right now but as far as of the last federation meeting I talked with the fisheries biologist and the stocking of hybrid has been stopped due to concerns for the bass population . As far as crappie the ones we have caught in the last several years have been very poor on the main lake but I have been told that there are some better ones up the river also .If you decide to run up sandy be very careful and take your time and a good map with you and learn it well there are alot of dangerouse places up that way and alot of long drawn points and hidden shallow areas and treetops just under the water . Hope this info helps you good luck.

Every little bit helps bunches if you know what I mean. I do not know the lake at all, so thanks for the direction and warning. Where can you find good maps of bodies of water? I woild like to have one of Yatesville, Grayson and Cave Run. Thanks again.

We use to troll a small floating Rapala along the shoreline. I have cught some super crappie and a few really good bass that way at Grayson. The spillway use to hold some really nice trout and bass if you didn't mind to walk about a mile down from the parking area. There are some really deep holes down that part of the Sandy.

The best maps you can get IMO are thru the corps they are very large and very detailed as for just one to thro in the boat you can grab a hotspot or something and mark it from the corp map. The huntington wv corp runs grayson and i believe yatesville.

Don't get me wrong, I love Grayson Lake but there are not alot of big fish opportunity there. You can get in on some fun fishing on the roadbeds for bass and up in the creeks too. Some of my favorite days are on rainy days. Super Flukes, Pop-R, and Spinnerbaits killem on rainy days.

If you like fishing for Bluegill then you will have some fun. Fish the rock walls in the summertime for big Bluegills. Don't be afraid to go 10 - 12 feet deep for them.
