View Full Version : BARKLEY & KY LAKES (where's the crappie)
Started fishing Ky Lake (Smith Bay) with no luck. The way everybody was moving around every 20 min. I figured nobody was catching fish.
Loaded up went to Barkley (Crooked Creek) never caught a crappie.
We did catch alot of Drum, Catfish, 1 stripe, 1 bass.
WHERE'S THE CRAPPIE?

They are there! It is sporadic, but most of the bites we have been getting are in the afternoon. The water temp in one bay was 66 today. Once it starts staying above 62 or so watch out! In the last 4 days we have managed to catch a few. I'm starting to stock up the freezer for the summer.

Boys.... anytime you get to fish or hunt for that matter .... its a good day.
Not to sound if I'm instilled with folklore but around Ky. & Barkley lake concerning crappie... a lot of old timers would bet their farm on catching a lot of crappie when the dogwoods are in full bloom. All in all ... their about right on the money and I've also heard the same said about the turkeys.
Thats a hard choice... turkey hunt or fish. It's nice to do both but usually the turkeys win me over. :D
