When you are outfishing others and someone asks what they are biting on and where, what do you do? Especially if you are still fishing that lake or river at the time.

It depends who it is and whether they are fishing for fun or fishing in a tournament against me.....;)

When you are outfishing others........

So this is a hypothetical question? :)

I have had people take pity on me and offer me some advice so I imagine if I was ever outfishing anyone I would tell them everything I knew. Shouldn't take more than about 30 seconds.

Ditto. The one thing I won't do is if someone tells me a tip I will not relay that information to anyone else. I figure if someone is going to let me in on a tip I am NOT going to spread the word. If I find it myself then it depends on who it is.

Where'd ya' catch 'em at"?

"Right here" (Hooking my finger in my lip)

"What'd ya' use"?

"Bait"

"No. What did you use"?

"A hook"...

I will usally give the bait and area but not the exact hole location that the most were holding. My closest friends will be told but to pinpoint a hotspot not likely. I will even go into detail how to catch them but it's up to whomever to find the honeyhole.

After looking at the poll, it has dawned on me that this place is full of liars. Only 2 of us that are brutally honest!

Give them some honest helpful advice on baits and good areas, but don't disclose your honey hole.

that's what im saying if you gave up ur honey hole every time u where fishing then you would never have a honey hole;)

I usually tell all, just because I fish many different lakes and there are plenty of fish for everybody. Now, if someone tells me their "honey hole", I don't tell anyone else, just because they let me in on the secret, and my not want the whole world to know.

If someone is asking on here and I can help, I always give as much info as possible. I would want others to help me out if I needed it! :D

I feel there are enough fish for all. On Erie when someone asks where the bite is on, If I am catching, I let them in on the location. On Devils Lake a pro walleye fisherman told me where to fish, turns out we were the only people catching fish, so at the fish cleaning station we told the other fishermen, next day they were there with us catching too. I have pm'ed several members here and tried to pinpoint withen yards as to where to find sauger at greenup lock.None of these people have ever taken fish from my line or table, and it makes for good relations.Giving out fishing holes/techs/tips have never come back to bite me in the arse.

Footnote- Hunting is different! Told 2 young men in Mt. where to find grouse, next day they came in with 28! Limit is 5 per! Taken people mushroom hunting and found them ahead of me in my spots the next year.Took a guy to my favorite grouse hunting covert here, and he has ended up taking all his hunting buddies back! For those reasons I NEVER take anyone hunting to my spots......unless they are blindfolded first!:D

At one time, I was very forthcoming with hunting and fishing information alike. I simply enjoy talking about it and I liked helping others with success. However, I've been burned too many times with revealing too much about my holes, hunting and fishing alike. So things tend to stay quiet now (unless I'm getting paid to tell it. :D )

A little hint doesn't hurt a thing, but as often as not, you're spoiling hard work that you've put in yourself when you reveal too many secrets. And, if you're like me, you enjoy figuring things out on your own more than simply going hole jumping.

I will try and share what I know. I learned alot from somebody when I knew nothing, so I try and help pass it to somebody else. Now, for the honey hole, a few select people can know but not just everybody. I put my hard work into finding it, what fun would it be if everybody knew about it. If somebody lets me in on a secret and they want me only to know about it, thats the way I keep it.

Very nicely put. Same here.
