This sums it up why UK is where it is at currently.
Hobbs and Hanson joined the staff in 2000 and Rigot in 2002.
The knock on Smith's current staff is that it hasn't consistently recruited at the level of UK's biggest rivals.
According to the Recruiting Services Consensus Index, a Web site that gives high school players a consensus ranking based on the top recruiting services' lists, UK has had one top-10 recruiting class since 2000.
That came in 2004, when the Cats signed the No. 4 class in the nation, according to the RSCI.
By comparison, North Carolina and Kansas have each had five consensus top-10 recruiting classes since 2000. Duke and the University of Louisville have each had three.
Here is what we have coming in next year.
UK signed two high school seniors last fall, center Mike Williams from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Va., and forward A.J. Stewart from Jacksonville (Fla.) Arlington Country Day.
Neither is expected to have a significant immediate impact. Rivals.com ranks Stewart the 138th-best senior in the class of 2007. Williams is not among Rivals' top 150 seniors.
