Did anybody not believe Rose bet on baseball? If so, I've got some swamp land and a bridge for sale.:D

It was proven in the original investigation. That's why Rose didn't fight the findings. Give him his due because of his acheivments. But he earned his lifetime ban from baseball.

Great that he actually admitted to it...But come on folks, the man is being kept out of the Hall of Fame for actions done after his great Career... The Hall of Fame is for Great Baseball players and he had already quit as a player... So he should be put in and everyone can forgive the man...He's paid a big price for what he did....Let it go and move on..... Let him in and soon.....

Well didn't they strip OJ of his Heisman after the fact of being proven  innocent ? Kind of the same deal,,, sort of. It was beyond his playing years.

As a huge fan of major league baseball, I wish they would select hall of famers the same way the NFL does...on the field play only. They do not take into account a players reputation or off the field antics. After all Mike Irvin is a hall of famer. I understand why MLB takes the stance they do, but I just wish they would keep it to what a player accomplished between the lines...simple as that.

I dont believe OJ was ever stripped of the Heisman....His trophy was stolen along with some other memorabilia but his name still appears in the record books on the Heisman website....

http://www.heisman.com/winners/hsmn-winners.html

Its not so much that he hasn't been put in as much as its the fact that these sports writers think that they are holier than thou with their arrogance.....Look at Mark McQuire.....He hasn't even been charged with anything and they are crucifying him over using steroids....Its ignorant!

so, what's the big deal? He bet on baseball, namely, he bet the teams he was managing and playing for would WIN. If he had bet on the opposing team he was managing, I would agree with his death sentence. Betting on his team to win; maybe not the smartest decision, but I think it's a joke if he is left out of the Hall forever.

I do believe that O.J. was ordered by the courts to give up the Heisman Trophy to be auctioned off like all the rest of his stuff to help pay off the debt of the Law suit he lost in the wrongful death suit... But the Trophy suddenly came up stolen according to reports right after the verdict was read and announced..... Seem strange don't it.... Nah...it don't...he got away with murder and he wanted to keep his Trophy...Sick man......

The "big deal" is about gambling on baseball. A whole season was tainted by a gamblig scandal. Rose wasn't even born when it occurred. Rose violated the rules put in place to prevent another scandal. There's not much that will get a guy banned from baseball for life. Betting on the game is a big one.

Pete Rose is his own worst enemy. He needs a handler to tell him when to shut up...

I agree with that. However, I disagree strongly with his death sentence from baseball and the Hall.

I am with you Hammer. I think he sure could have added a lot to today's game. Could you imagine having Pete back as a coach or GM? He would not put up with this, "I'm a cool major leaguer, so I don't have to hustle or work hard...I'll just do some HGH and make my millions". I liked his last book. Like he said many times the ban from basball hurts a helluva lot more than not being in the hall of fame! That just shows you what a true baseball man this guy was. MLB sure could use some more like Pete, especailly in this era of roids and huge salaries...

I'm not really a Reds fan but, I've always loved ol' Pete....betting/lying or not. His ban falls squarely on the shoulders of the "integrity of the game" rule. No more, no less.
Should he be banned from the game? My opinion......YES!
Banned from the "hall"?.........a TRAVESTY to mankind!
He could, arguably, be considered the most deserving (of induction to the hall) to have ever played the game.
Let the man in the door, for God's sake.

well said slow-bow.
Pete knew what he was doing, and the penalty for that is a lifetime ban.
But for the love of peter, let the man in the hall.

Too true. And, who did more damage to the sport, Pete Rose or Performance enhancing drugs.

Pete should not be allowed in baseball, but should be in the hall, pure and simple.

Couldn't agree with you guys more...He sure was a pleasure to watch play the game...Now if all these Steroid Junkies want to be a baseball player and earn respect....Play as Charlie Hussle did his entire career...With no dope or Steroids..........:)
