Well boys, I saw the first sign of pre-rut myself yesterday. I was up on a ridge and had a doe followed by a small four pointer headed right up the hill to me. When I got there and set up my ground blind the wind was perfect, right in my face. But as the sun slipped away all wind stopped. Now these deer stopped about 50 yards below me on the hill and winded me, started blowing and ran off. My question is how long does it take for them to come back on the same trail? In all my experiences I have very rarely seen the same deer or any deer on a trail that I was winded on. Any advice? Thank you!

I'd hunt it the next day, (Wind permitting of course) The deer will be back, sometimes in 10 minutes, sometimes a few days.

Good Luck!

I agree with P Beyer, they'll be back and sometimes within minutes.

i hunt with a 165 lb crossbow and i still limit my shots to 30 yards..and i can shoot nocks off at 30 yards but i wont shoot at a deer any farther..i feel i owe it to the deer to kill it a quickly as possible, and tracking a gut shot deer is not my idea of spending a saturday afternoon..

I've walked a trail and jumped deer out of their beds and they came back minutes later, deer will not give up an area that they consider
theirs easily if they want to be there. However after spooking them
they will be 10 times as alert for quite a while. They will leave
if you keep getting busted going in. Scent, Silence, and not being
seen. These are things to remember.
