With the much cooler weather setting in next week I expect that the pre rutting activities will explode.

mr. ordnance that is a real educated response.

newby and basswipe i feel like the activity will pickup this coming week. i haven't saw any scrapes and very few rubs as of now but i really feel in the next two weeks that we will start seeing a lot more movement and action with the bucks. i've saw a lot does and one buck, but i feel like that's going to change

Haven't seen any love struck bucks yet, However (2) scrapes just opened up this week in a woodlot I'm hunting. So far I've failed to locate any rubs. The time is near though.

I've seen several rubs on a dry ridge line but no chasing. Don't get too excited about next week yet. Even weather.com tends to only be accurate for only 3-4 days in advance. I sure hope they are right because I've been waiting an eternity for a good week/weekend.

I have found one good rub at Taylorsville near a creek crossing
leading to a food plot and some ponds several weeks ago believe it not. I have not seen any good active scapes yet. I have seen bedding areas about everywhere even near feeding areas all season.

Just funnin' with you Bell County Buck. I have seen one set of rubs, I say one set because it was on three diffrent trees within a 10 feet square. I know there are a couple of monsters there, I have been seeing them for the last three seasons. I of course am done hunting for the year. But maybe my oldest boy will get a crack at one of them.

today would be the perfect day to be in the woods here in Bell co. it is a overcast day with little to no wind. about 48 degrees and i bet the big boys are on the move especially after the dark night we had last night.

Here in western ky. I've noticed the number of rubs have increased dramatically in the past couple weeks, but no good sign of scrapes, yet.

I have seen both rubs and scrapes for weeks now. Scrapes all over the place and fresh rubs near field edges. This week will be a great time to be out there.

I found a large scrape yesterday in Western KY and it was wet. Two hours later that area was dry and another spot was wet. Something had been hitting it. I would say the bucks should be chasing this weekend.

I had two bucks come in to my "estrous bleet can". I got my first bow kill this morning too! A 5-point! Not a monster, but definately a trophy in my eyes, since it is my 1st with a bow. He was out about 15 yards, and I was on the ground in a natural blind.

Thanks! I heard something walking about 100 yards away, so I did 4-5 bleets. I followed it a few seconds later with a few grunts, and the bucks made a beeline right for me. One walked within 10 yards (and I was on the ground!) tring to look for the "doe"

I hunted this AM. Saw nothing at all. First time this year that has happened. I did see a fresh scrape though. It was textbook on a field edge with a nice broken licking branch. It was the first scrape I have ever seen on this particular farm so I was happy.

Behind the house this week we saw a 4 point chasing a doe, three nice bucks together after dark and a nice eight point chasing does in an open field. My buddy saw a 4 point chasing a doe in muzzleloading and another nice 8 pointer on his property. His grandfather saw two bucks fighting behind his house this week and a 6 point and an 8 point running a doe. The action is definately picking up! I believe after this weekend it will start getting right!

Here is the pic of my first bow kill. Like I said, not a monster, but it sure had me shaking when I drew back. I had to put the arrow back on the rest at least 3 times![:D] I shot him while he was staring right at me, eye level. Bow hunting from the ground at eye level with the deer can make you a nervous wreck! LOL

That's awesome! What was the distance?? I once kicked up a doe and she stood broadside staring at 8 yards while I slowly turned and drew. I remember thinking, "I've got no buck fever!" as I doublechecked my anchor point and took a deep breath. Well I forgot all about my peep and pins and shot a foot over this deer's back! Then I stood there feeling extra foolish as deer jumped out of beds all around me (it was a thick field with waist high growth everywhere.)

My personal view is that any deer with a bow is a trophy. One taken from the ground earns extra respect. Congratulations.

Thanks! He was at about 12 yards when I shot, but came within 8 yards before I drew back. He didn't go far, maybe 50 yards after I shot him. I almost forgot the peepsite too. I was looking at my sights with both eyes when I remebered to look at the peep. LOL

I passed a couple of six pointers this morning, still no does and these two came running to the grunt calls.

[:D]Awesome .300,... Your hooked for life and you'll never be the same!

I heard of a good buck today. One of my employees came in, Whom has never hunted. He lives in a rural area and is accustomed to seeing Deer, and on occasion BUCKS!! However he said this Buck was much larger than he'd ever seen. He described the "Base" of the antlers as 2X thicker than any other, and said the deer had "Points" going everywhere. He also said the BIG boy was following a "Girl Deer" accross the road with no caution as to the oncoming traffic!

Man O' Man my bllods boiling now!

I watched a nice 8-pointer make a scrape about 15 yards in front of me. He then stood on his hind legs to lick a branch. I had him come charging in to the "Can" call. He hung around for about 25 minutes, giving me endless shot opportunities, but of course, he must have known I already filled my buck tag.

thats what happens when you use your buck tag on a smaller deer it never fails but congradulations on your kill it looks just like the first buck i took with a bow. You will have more confidence now than ever before and it will make you a better bowhunter and might i add that any deer killed off the ground with a bow is a trophy!

great job 300. I have yet to take a deer with a bow but I will this year. Now you can concentrate on some does and now you know what it is like to take a deer with a bow.

300 - i dont mean to steal your thunder, but nobody really spoke up and i know some people are thinking it.. first congrats on your kill.. awesome job on taking a deer with a bow.. seriously i mean that.. but folks we really need to let the younger ones walk.. a good portion of our hunters consistantly shoot anything with horns no matter the size.. EVERYONE of us wants bigger bucks and we wont get there if we keep taking spikes and 4 pointers.. i have yet to take any deer with my bow, and i really really want to, but i've passed on several bucks, even an 8 because he was a small basket 8.. i'm not out for the "trophy" and i'm sticking my nose up at 8's.. hell i'd love a nice 8.. but i dont want antler restrictions put in place in ky, because that is what will happen.. it's working in PA - but before the state see's fit to regulate us, i'd like for us to regulate our selfs.. let the small one's go guys.. there will be other deer..
300 - again congrats!!!

I'm all for letting the little bucks walk. AFTER you kill a little one or two that is. Anyone that wants or expects a firsttimer to let a buck walk cause it's not big enough needs to think back to their first shot opportunity. I am not worried about antler restrictions nearly as much as the "kill more does" campaign. Since that took off, deer numbers have plummeted in my area. Anyway, shoot a few little ones if you want before you start worrying about passing them up. Great job and a great first bow buck 300.

300, I remember my first deer hunt back in '69. I was 17 and had only seen one harvested deer in my life. I was drawn to hunt Fort Knox along with 11 other guys from my area. We all made a vow that the first day of a two day hunt, (either sex), everbody would take bucks only. The second day we would take either one we could. I couldn't help it, when that doe came along about 11:00 a.m. I fired her up and made a clean kill. I dreaded going back to the truck because the other guys were more experienced and I knew I would have the only doe and they would have all of these wonderful wallhangers to brag about. That evening when I finally made it back, the count was 8 does, no bucks. Now 34 years later, he moral of the story is that when I get to the point that I don't get neverous and over anixous, then I'll quit hunting! Congrats on a fine first buck! Keep up the good work.

I shot a doe at the end of the early muzzleloader season, and come to find out, there was a nice 6 ptr following the does with his nose to the ground. He never even flinched when I shot, and continued to follow the does (they didn't spook either) right out into the field like nothing had happened.

Thanks for the congrats guys. Well my luck is still with me and I stuck a doe this morning! She was about 20 yards out when I nailed her. Maybe I should go hunting every Thursday morning, it seems to be a good day of the week for me. After shooting that first deer with a bow, it made the 2nd one a whole lot easier. Thanks again!
